Never said it did for Weber but he is PROgressing while all Myers keeps doing is REgressing.
Weber will be a main stay here because he is a lunch bucket soft on the salary cap 3-6 type of dman. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Myers will be moved sooner or later or bought out in years ahead because of underachieving and not so cap friendly contract.
Just my opinion. - BuffaloHardHat
Weber has been solid because they've finally figured out a way to put him in a position where he doesn't have the think. The guy is as dumb as a rock. When he has to think while on the ice, he's a disaster. This year, he hasn't had to do much thinking. Either that, or this entire defense corps has been such a disaster that it's just simply not as noticeable. |

Do these forums have an ignore function ? That way you don't have to see posts by people who make the forum redundant and do not have any solid input , but just silly jibberish. Other non sports forums I use do . It is really useful . They should really add one here . It would be a very good addition. - Maximum Signal I'm afraid half the pages would be blank for me....

I think this team has proven that we don't need Vanek and his 7.2M contract in order to win games in the NHL...
Miller... I am on the fence about.. I don't really know if he would even resign or not... but with youth movement coming and his large contract.. I don't know if he is in the plans for it... I like it that he has been playing very strong as of late though. - JVince11
IMO adding Vanek and his scoring touch to the young players we have coming up would be an upgrade and it can't hurt, IMO I don't think Pegula cares about Vanek's money especially since they might buy out Leino. Stafford is the contract that needs to go. |

When Mike Weber is being called your most steady D-man you have major problems. |

Agreed, except Pysyk and Hodgson for me. Pysyk looked really good last night.
He was up in the play and geeting deep into the zone. He is very quietly playing like what Myers did his rookie season. I like his confidence. - ImThatGuy
Both are coming along I'll agree on that. |

I know it was a joke but your so hypocritical it's borderline insane. I will be the first to admit Myers didn't have a solid game last night, but none of them did, including Mike Weber - sbroads24

I agree... Leino is bought out at this point already if you ask me...
and Staffords 4M is going to be traded for a bottle of scotch...
that 8M off the books could very well buy Vanek an extension for a few years.. but these injuries are killing my "love" for him to be on this team any longer...
If Armia shows up strong, Grigo gets the linemates he deserves, and we draft a nice winger..... I think Vanek could be obsolete. |

I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Nathan Horten come in, I know about his concussions but he also 27 and would fit into our retool or rebuild IMO. |

I really dislike Leino. Vanek may not 'miss games" but the dude is always playing with an injury of some type. He is harldy at 100%. Staff can go, so i agree with all of that. |

Don't know if you read Spector's site or not but he mentioned that a deal for Stafford to Caps was almost done at the deadline and the Sabres backed out. He said it was for a2nd or 3rd round pick for Stafford. Not me saying this it;s what I read. |

Exactly... Therefore if he is not that kind of player then he isn't nearly as valuable. Take away the height hype and he is a offensive dman that has gotten worse every year.
He is probably still worth a lot in trade value even with that contract. Lets trade him before teams see another year of him being an average at best dman. - Smittyx36
Myers was brought up and made the NHL because of his offensive prowess.. his rookie year they allowed him to use that a lot more.. they told him to join rushes.. to get lower in the offensive zone.. christ.. they used him in shootouts..
but ever since.. they have wanted to make him a kingpin D-man.. they want him to be an all-around defender.. a stay at home guy MORE than offensive... that that just isn't Myers game... let him be the player that got him to the NHL...
you don't see Mike Green, Karlsson, Gonchar, Campbell, etc being told to stop trying to be offensive and just focus on trying to be stay home guy. |

Seeing how the SE is such poop this year, a low third rounder would have been legitimately not worth it, even for the infection. I think he'll be worth more this summer, he'll be looked at like a rehab project... not a good risk for a team trying to make the playoffs. |

Bingo. The same can be said for the likes of Ennis and Hodgson. They're most effective when they're allowed to do what they do best. I'm tired of trying to make skill guys into "two-way players". Danny Briere was weak defensively, so he played a style that made it not matter. He didn't convert his game. |

I see your point.. but maybe the fact that he is always playing with injuries and they are slowing his scoring down... is just his body starting to show its 30 year old age.. and being in the crease for so long probably makes his body that of a 40 year old...
I say cut the ties unless he re-ups for a discount. I think that if we do keep some vets around... they better be the leader kind and Vanek is not that IMO. |

Not taking sides, but this features top two interenet fight classics:
1. Do you even watch the games?
2. If you ever played hockey you would know ...
PLUS, it introduces a third:
You have AN AGENDA.
"Agenda" will now become dirty word on these pages. |

Just unloading Stafford's salary is a plus. They should have taken whatever - 2nd or a 3rd.
