Thugging their way to back-to-back cups in 74-75.
- Sasquatchernaut

Blah blah blah thug a way to the cup. Perhaps you hadn't watched Boston in that era. The Flyers were modeled after Boston to beat them at their own game. Hmm seems like it worked get over it.

I don't think it is worthy of a suspension or fine.

This does remind me a little of the Cooke incident with Karlsson. All of the people saying DZ shouldn't get a suspension because he doesn't have eyes in the back of head should apply the same logic to that Cooke incident. If DZ can't purposely elbow Neal in his head (much larger target) while not looking, no way Cooke could intentionally cut Karlsson.

a disgrace Shero isn't in the HOF.....he never once sent a player out to fight...he always taught them to play physical and finish checks......he was an innovator in many respects from breaking down other teams to using assistant coaches...

If injuries are a result of Karma, that explains a lot of Philly's injuries this year.

Here I am again!
Your response to me acknowledged that my facts were correct. Have you been a Penguins fan for the 45 years as I have been a Rangers fan? I doubt it; since you Pens fans never showed up at games until Mario and Jagr won cups; and then slept while the franchise was about to fold or move; until Cindy was awarded to you.

wow... you've been a fan for 45 years? that makes you at least 45 years old... which makes your immaturity even more unseemly. cindy? really? grow up sonny

So, you are in your 40's and call people childish nicknames like "Cindy"? Sad story bro, I feel bad for your parents. I'm sure they are getting sick of you living in their basement.

Neal is a head hunter himself. He just walked into a guy swinging his arm around. Give me a break suspend him. I've more crap let go by named players. The ones that don't get the suspension.

yes Cindy and Gina.......Pitt fans are without a doubt the biggest bandwagon fans of all time.....they lost on purpose to get Mario....they changed the draft rules....Pens down the toilet late 90's time to tank again and somehow they are awarded Cindy when they had no business getting him......everyone outside of Pitt understands this except Pens fans

In my utmost expert opinion...

If a player's stick is behind him and he lifts if up over his should to get it in front and in doing so, cuts a player.... that's 4.

Elbows should be no different.

And besides... these guys are professionals. They know where everyone is, how lively the boards are where are the turnbuckles.

No doubt this was intentional. A Good act, but intentional.

EVEN if it was not.... using the stick analogy, he is still guilty.

Looked like DZ was trying to give him a back check and just got his arm up a little high. As much as I would like to see a top 4 ranger D man suspended, I don't think it's worth a suspension. MAYBE a fine though. It was just very careless on his part.

Although the elbow most likely wasn't intentional, Shanaban needs to become consistent. Plays similar to this have had disciplinary hearings and some have been like this and have no hearings.

Man...that sounds a lot like jealousy. Understandable though. Funny that you insult Crosby by calling him Cindy and then in the same sentence say the Pens were "awarded" him. So you put him on a pedestal and insult him in the same sentence.

I first saw that Cindy name for Crosby a year ago here on Hockey Buzz in a Flyers fan's comment during the 1st round of their playoffs last season against the Pens. Do you remember those results?

I am actually into that next decade's age group doing quite well; including still tending goal in competitive recreational hockey; and living in a home alone where their taxes we pay are more than you make in salary in a year by the way you post here. I accept your sympathy for my parents; not for the way you said it, but for the fact that they are deceased.

I did not & will not start a name calling match with you. YOU DID since you can't accept the hockey facts that I posted earlier to be accurate. So grow up here!

For you Penguins and other fans that thought DelZotto purposely elbowed Neal in the head, I have this fact for you as per the Rangers radio voice Kenny Albert:
"DelZotto and Neal are friends and work out together in the off-season to stay in game shape."

That's original.

Maybe you should worry about your current team. FYI you just got smoked by the Jets.

- Francois Leroux

Who needs original when you've got facts?

And what's there to worry about? Have you seen the Flyers defense?

Another fun fact: Pens also lost a game to the Jets this season.

I get so frustrated when the NHL's protected teams, and players get calls in their favor. You go after a not so protected team's player, and you get a different call by the refs, and a different reaction by the league. If the NHL would treat all the teams the same, and all the players the same, then maybe the dumb stuff would stop.
A few words to the NHL: STOP PROTECTING CERTAIN PLAYERS, AND TEAMS. In addition, if I hear any more about how the Pens are AWESOME or wronged in any way, I am going to scream. I do not watch the NHL channel or NHL games to see 24 hours Pens coverage. There are other teams in the league. I understand that some may want an update on Sid's health, but when it becomes a hospital bed watch, and the report goes on for 20 minutes that becomes ridiculous.
That being said, I do not think that any fine should be applied in this situation. If it were any other team than the Pens would we be having this discussion? Once again, I say, protect all the teams, and players equally. I don't support illegal hits. I don't support dirty players (Matt Cooke). The player was protecting himself from a hit into the boards. The Pens player could have caused an injury if he was allowed to continue with his run, and for his trouble he would have just received a 2 minute boarding penalty. It's about time that a player stood up for himself, and protected himself.
Other things to consider: face shields or cages, hybrid icing, teaching the players to quit facing the boards to protect the puck, and teach the players to let up on the hit if the other player doesn't see them coming.
Finally, the enforcers are there to protect the other players. Let the enforcers go after the dumb ones that try to take advantage of a particular situation. This will allow the players to police themselves a little, and the league should step in only when necessary (suspensions and fines).
You can hit hard, but play fair, and don't cry when you get spanked for being stupid.
Thanks for listening.

Del Zotto knows Neal is behind him, leaves his feet and throws both elbows behind him. Del Zotto may not have intentionally hit Neal in the head but he did hit him in the head, drew blood, and gave him a potential concussion. Intent is hard to prove but the player has to be held accountable for his actions and this was not a hockey play.

Suspension for 3 games.

I don't see how you can suspend for that... it's like the Matt Cooke/Karlson incident. Could Del Zotta honestly have planned to leap and blindly elbow Neal directly in the mouth while not even being 100% aware of where he was?

Seems like one of those unfortunate hockey incidents where someone gets injured but it probably wasn't done maliciously... if it was, I don't see how that could be determined.

No suspension imo... maybe karma for the Cooke skate thing ;-)

- fishbulb80

Barely put's a dent in either Neal's or Cooke's karma, without even touching on Mario Lemieux and the whole of that organization. I'd say the Crosby incident is a pretty decent example of possible karmic retributions.
