they're both useless so what does it matter?
- robz228

Kaleta has a job on this team, but he still needs to learn self control. He is our best penalty killer IMO and can get teams off their game (pittsburgh the other night)

You do realize that not everyone on the team is going to score 20+ goals every year right? There are other roles that you need people to be able to fill. Kaleta does that. Those guys are just as important to the team as the scorers are.

I agree with this. I was pretty ticked he took that penalty tonight. But it was a penalty and he deserved it.

but hey we never agree so atleast we are consistent and dont rip into each other

the point of a rebuild is to identify the pieces you have on your team who are going to be pieces of your ideal team in the future and get rid of the rest

you really think 3 years from now with kaleta still playing, still getting hurt, and probably 1 or 2 more suspensions is someone that will a solid piece on a contending team?

its pretty irrelevant now, but if im picking a pest/penalty killer to be a part of my future, kaleta is quite far down on the list by now.

Yea I mean he's developed into a solid #4 or 5 defense when at times he looked lost last year
- eruppt45

He has been better but he does this every year, looks really good and physical for stretches and then completely falls off. I hope he continues to play this way because other than the dumb penalties, he has been solid all year

OH I agree hope one of the younger guys or Larsson step into his role.
All I want is a guy to kill penalties put his face infront of a puck I dont care if that person comes to family functions or not

yeah, you know who was great at other roles? adam mair. jochen hecht (who somehow scored 20). mike grier. kaleta for the first couple years.

im not arguing that hes a bad player. my whole argument is that his reputation with refs and around the league has (fairly or unfairly) become so bad that he cant effectively fill his role anymore.

So what exactly happened tonight to tell you that he can't fill his role anymore?

i didnt think that was a charge. he let up way before he hit him. maybe it was a lot worse than i could see from my seats.

ill tell you one thing tho, if any other player on the sabres made that hit, it wasnt a penalty.

and chris neil did whatever he wanted on the ice. kaleta would confront him and probably make fun of his mother or something and neil would just shove him and get off the ice.

wasnt really agitating anything. drew 0 penalties and took 1.

That was a textbook example of a charge. He decided before he even crossed the blueline that he was going to go in and hit that guy. Anything more than 4 strides is a charge.

He really only clipped him but it's still charging. Ott did the same thing against Toronto and didn't get called for it. But I think the refs realized in that game they blew it and that's why they called him for that corny unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for blowing a kiss at Phaneuf.

He's earning it and I'm glad, he hopefully can replace Regehr. He also did make a bad turnover on the Ottawa second goal though, I have just seen this from him the last couple years. Looks really good for a while and then goes back to taking stupid penalties and turnovers. I have to say though he has been making the smart play most of the time which used to be his problem

Chris Neil plays exactly the same type of role that Kaleta does. If Kaleta does something in retaliation to that, he's going to get called for something and that puts Neil up on him in terms of who's being more effective. Kaleta ignoring him is exactly what he should do in this case.

but screw kaleta, back to the more important points

pysyk is/is going to be awesome.

porter and flynn are both good 3rd liners.

i think yost came in here one time with his penalty killing stats and porter is one of the best in the league. they showed that clearly tonight.

They recalled Pysyk instead of McNabb because of Pysyk's overall game being a bit more sound. He's just a more steady guy. McNabb probably would have gotten the call after Regehr and Leo were shipped out, but he's got a knee injury.

He can be a top pairing defense man IMO. Put him and Hoff on 1st pairing duties.

No. He was healthy when Pysyk got called up. Got hurt pretty soon afterwards though.
