No team would EVER trade a 1st round pick to dump salary.
- LenW3

I'm not saying a straight up first for a salary dump , but if you are team like Chicago and you are up against the cap and don't want to lose a good player , you might give up a first for a second just to keep your talent together ... Just thru the hawks in as an example , I don't know their cap situation

I agree, I think there should be a ton of opportunities for moves like this. I'm not sure teams would offer a 1st rnd but you never know what deals can be worked out.
- TandA4Flames

I know teams don't like to do that , but if you were say Vancouver and had booth Ballard luongo contracts , you are up against the cap , there might be a deal where u give the 23rd ( guessing ) pick and booth , and you receive a second rounder from the flames and something else ....van rids themselves of the cap hit and only drops 10-15 spots in the draft , flames move up and take on a buyout .... Maybe this isn't done in the first round , maybe in the second , but this could be a possibility .... You have cap space why not use it

I agree as long as it's on a servicable player. We wouldn't want a Gaborik or Richards on this team at this point.

We have no use for those types right now .... That will just help us get 9th again lol

I'm ok with if we get those types so long as they have only 1 year left and we move them at the deadline for more picks/prospects. I son't think those types would get moved as $$$ dumps anyway. I certainly could see a Ballard type getting moved though. I would except a Komisarek with a 2nd for a C level prospect, basically a career AHL'r. He helps for the year but not so much that we get pushed up the standings & he may bring back another 2nd or 3rd at the deadline.

Another point for JBo! He's going to help us get that 1st rnd pick this year.

Question for hockey pool purposes to any kind Flames fans out there;

Is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that Kipper is retiring after this season? That's what I've read, but thought some of you might have a better gauge of the situation.

Also, good to see the Flames still battling. Last night's game was a lot closer than the score showed.

FLA wins tonight. We are officially 2nd last place. Too bad the draft isn't today.

I don't think you can go wrong. We saw first hand what a dominate #1 d-man can do for a team and then what happens when he leaves.
