You're big on Monohan; him over Barkov & Jones? Why? Not that I don't like him. I have no interest in Shinkaruk. There should be options just as good if not better at that spot and, again, he is a LW which we are over-loaded with. C,D & RW is what we really need to focus on. Lazar I would condider with the PIT pick but I'm not overly keen on him either.
1st pick: MacKinnon, Jones, Barkov
2nd pick: Ristolainen, Pulock, Gauthier
3rd pick: Zykov, Morrisey, Bowey
Other options: Drouin, Lindholm, Monohan, Zadorov, Bailey - TandA4Flames
There are so many good players in the top 20 this year. I think you'll see teams draft on need because there is not a huge difference.
As of today If Colorado got top pick I would say:
Avs-Jones
Fla- Mackinnon
Calgary-Barkov (I hate to see it...)
Buffalo-Nichishkin
Tbay-Drouin
Carolina-Nurse
Dallas-Zadorov
Philly-Monahan
Winnepeg-Lindholm
Nashville-Lazar
Phoenix-Shinkaruk
Columbus-Richardinson
NJ-Zykov
Edm-Ristolainen

Nice try. Risto goes before 14.
I would prefer Mac but would be okay with Barkov as well. |

Here's a scary idea that is very likely , feaster uses a max of one of the three picks and possibly none , trades each of the picks to teams in cap trouble for their " pre apex " players .... He's just that dumb that he will do it - Redmile247
Dude......we don't talk about this here......
Our first for Brayden Schenn & Wayne Simmonds...BOOM |

To who?
Phoenix, Nash, CBJ, Win all in Dire need of scoring forwards and all have solid D cores. The only one I could see would be Philly but do they take him that early with so many quality Centers there? |

I heard someone mention Barkov would need to fulfil some military commitments....do you know what his deal is?
I think Barkov is on the Flames radar...if they do want him and have 2nd pick, I hope they trade down to 3rd and get him. Worst case you get MacKinnon or Jones and whatever you go to trade down. |

Is it that bad of a play though? Maybe grab some players coming out of their ELC's this season?
It's less risky than say a 16th overall pick. Playing with fire though that's for sure. |

I agree...i'm just saying, if they would rather have Barkov over MacKinnon I hope they move down.
If they get first I want MacKinnon though, I think they will too! |

Yes and if we're lucky enough to get 1st then we trade down with Col (assuming they have the 2nd) because they want Seth Jones for sure. |

It was just an example.
But I think there could be a couple interesting scenarios out there. If they can get a guy like MacKinnon or Barkov with their pick, I wouldn't mind using the other 2 firsts to try and snipe somebody who is due a raise whose current team can't afford.
I will try and find some examples. |

Oh for sure. I thought you meant to use our 1st. If we can get something of value for the Pitt or St. Louis pick then have atter. |

I just have to say this as it will never get printed on TSN: the canuck low life low brow fans are the most disgusting fans in the game. No wonder ALL of Canada hates the canucks and ESPECIALLY their fans like lotterychump, blueballs, knuckles, dvtransvestite demanu et all.
I feel better. |

Examples: Tuuka Rask, Marcus Johansson, Karl Alzner, McDonaugh, Stepan, Hagelin, Zuccarrelo, Luke Adam, Nick Leddy, Cal Clutterbuck, Chris Tanev
Anyways, these are the type of RFA's out there that are probably due decent size raises on teams that are near the current cap.
Could be tough to sign these guys ALA Benn, Subban, this season. Might be able to poach a couple of them. |

If it is a center that they want, and if both are still available, I'm not convinced that the Flames should take MacKinnon over Barkov. Some have said that with his size he may be a better fit on the wing. Similar to what has happened with Tyler Seguin in Boston.
I'm still all for the dream / fantasy of using the first rounders we have along with players that weren't moved at the trade deadline to keep trying to move up. Say the flames pick is second overall. Then as an example The St. Louis pick (best case it is 15th overall) and a player to maybe get up to say 9th. 9th and another player to get up fo 4th. 4th, the Pittsburgh pick and another player to get to third. Then draft both Mackinnon and Drouin with the second and third picks.
Just an example, obviously would't be as straight forward as that. May take more to make it work. Also depends on the teams and what they will be wanting. Colorado will want a defenceman (Jones) as they are good for centers (o'Reilly and Duchesne). But I think that all of Calgary, Florida, and Buffalo will want a centerman. Tampa won't want a Center (Stamkos and Lecavalier already) but rather a defenceman (they have no problems with scoring). Makes the best hope for Draft order be Colorado, Calgary, Florida, Tampa, and Buffalo.
After the first 4 (Jones, Mackinnon, Drouin, and Barkov) the next 6 or so are pretty even. Jut depends on the position the team needs to fill. So Colorado drafts Seth Jones first overall. Calgary picks Mackinnon at second. Tampa will still very much get a great defenceman (Nurse, Zarorov, Pulock, Risolainen) with a lower pick so maybe they give up fourth to drop down to 9th (as I exampled before). Then trade that 4th to Florida so the Flames can draft Drouin third overall, and then Florida still gets their centerman in Barkov at fourth overall.
It's all fantasy General Managering, but what else does a Flames fan have to look forward to with this season. - dal_johnson
I'm not so sure that FLA would take a center. They have Huberdeau and Bjugstad (although THN has Hub's listed as a LW). They may take a close look at Drouin. I aldo don't believe BUF will be interested in a C either, they have Grigs and Girgs drafted from last year. Although they are fairly solid all over. They may be ripe to trade down, way down, and try to draft Fucale or another goalie (then again, they just picked up Hacket in the Pommer trade as well).
You're right, it would just be best if we were in the 2nd overall pick.
I wouldn't mind moving up but I think we may have to look at a team like the Flyers who are likely still more interested in making the PO then rebuilding. I would like to offer Cammi for their 1st straight up (assuming they are top 10). I initially wanted to trade up as well but looking at the prospects available, there is a lot of skill and talen the top 45. If CGY could get 4 1sts, that would be solid. 1 top 5, 2 mid rnd and 1 late rnd (likely 30th with PIT). |
