In that regard I tend to think the Rangers are trying to hard to be like the Yankees, a style of management which they should stay away from IMO .
To Sather's credit he always managed (and I dont know how) to unload doubtfull players with doubtfull contracts via trades , I just don't think Gaborik is that kind of player, hopefully it's just to get away from Torts. - Alexzanki
Sather has a knack for pulling the plug on players at the perfect times
but, I don't think Gaborik's shoulder has been right since his surgery after last season and it has affected his ability to finish.
Yes, he banged home a rebound last night, but he has been unable to score goals on any shots in the slot or anywhere when he isn't right near the net. 2 goals on his last 70 shots with the Rangers.
I don't think he is himself. His legs are still phenomenal, and that is always going to lead to golden opportunities. |

That's not really true though. The Rangers, unlike the Yankees, do develope their young talent now. Nash, Stepan, Staal, Hagelin, Callahan and Lundqvist have been the Rangers best players this year. Of that group, Nash is the only one not drafted by the Rangers. Since the Staal injury, Del Zotto has done a fantastic job in filling in for him. |

I could have ripped him apart for the Yankees comparison, but he seems like a nice guy |

Your saying we overpaid?!
Boll can do what Dorsett does.
Erixson and Prout are more then adequate replacements for Moore , heck Murray is coming in next year.
And Brassard well maybe, he will be what we saw last night but again the jury isn't out on him.
I see this a spare parts being traded, sort of like what Sather traded for Nash.
Alot of people are comparing this to the Scot Gomez trade ,wich I find it hard to believe , Gomez wasn't living up to expectations long before the Habs acquired him, Gaborik on the other hand managed 2 40 goal seasons. - Alexzanki
He's sayign Gaborik is overpaid and not worth $7.5M. Not that you overpaid. |

I wasn't ripping him apart at all. He does seem like an intelligent hockey fan, so that's always a plus. Just saying that Derek Jeter was the last yankee draft pick to reach the big leagues and become a great player. |

Before the lockout that wasn't the case though, pretty sure if today there wasn't a salary cap in place the Rangers would be all over the board signing free agents to ridiculous amounts . |

Perhaps. But I do see that now that the cap was implemented and they did well with this style of team building that even if the cap was removed they'd approach it the same way. Except the guys we lost (Prust) would have been paid to stay.
Rangers have 1 key guy over 30 and thats Hank at 31. I think we are building the team the right way and it was smart to trade Gabby (as much as I really like him), just think we should of gotten more. |

Robinson Cano was an international free agent when the Yankees sign him him at age 22. Not drafted, he grew up a Yankee fan, his father was a Yankee fan. Yankees kinda had the inside track on him. |

Other teams have spent crazy amounts of money on free agents after the lockout of 04 so I don't really understand where you are trying to go. |

Neither do I. Detroit would be closer to Montreal in cups by now. |

....and he's the only guy in the current lineup who can hit, which is of course why every Yankee fan who is a card carrying member of "the short bus fan club" calls up WFAN, and asks Francesca why Girardi doesn't make him bunt in certain situations. I kid, but I actually feel bad for Yankee fans (not a Mets fan, by the way, before we start with that nonsense)- just think, 30 some odd year old and younger Yankee fans don't remember anything but the playoffs and the World Series. It's about to be a rude awakening.
For example, when you add a Mark Texeira to a potent lineup, you give yourself a chance at winning the prize, which that team did. When you add a similar ball player to THIS club over the next four or five years, you might as well set up a cannon on the beach, point it toward the water, and shoot cannonballs made of money out into the ocean. It's time to rebuild that puppy, the way Showalter and Michael did it last time- I just wonder how long it will take Cashman to figure that out.
..........ANNNNNNNND that's enough about baseball, for at least a year or so......this season is the most exciting ever, because every night is a playoff game....and a lot of the teams are really starting to play that way. |

Some guys are better off not playing in any system that requires them to play defense. He should have stayed in the "anywhere west of Pittsburgh" conference in the first place...just saying....he'll score a 100 points playing for Columbus, and be +2.... |

I don't get why you add to tell me all of this. I realize that the Yankees are a 3rd place team this year. And I am one of those yankees who was kid 1995-2004. I remember Cleveland in 97, Arizona in 2001, Anaheim in 2002, Florida in 2003 and Boston in 2004. In 2008 the Yankees didn't even make the playoffs if you remember. So Why did you have to tell that the Yankees are old, injured and just not that good? I already knew all of that. |
