It's not at all an unreasonable thought to trading one of the Flyers young forwards to improve the defense. In fact, I think it's what they should do. But I want them to make the right deal. And I'm not really interested in trading Couturier for an offensive defenseman. I only trade Couturier for an all situations player. Or one that I think has the potential to be that.

While I agree with you there aren't many teams giving up those types of defenseman. The Flyers are really good at drafting forwards so i'm not concerned if they had to move one to acquire a defenseman like Yandle or Shattenkirk.

I would have a problem trading a young forward for a defenseman who is 30+ years old.

You're right. So my main point is that if I'm not getting the type of defenseman I need. Then I'm not trading Couturier. Simple as that.

Isn't it amazing how much better the look when they play the right way? And play responsibly defensively? You and I were calling for that change for how long. And this is with Coburn, Meszaros, and Grossmann out of the lineup. What I get a kick out of is when I read that must mean the players in there now, are better. When what it really means is that a team playing the right way, is always better then more talented players, playing as individuals. And playing the wrong way.

It's incredible. They're doing a very good job in their own end, an at the same time, they're not off to the races as soon as a defenseman gets the puck on his stick. No more forcing the defensemen to skate it out or make a high risk pass from the defensive zone to the neutral zone.

There is no need to trade him period. The Flyers can upgrade their defense without trading Couturier or Schenn.

They're going to have to trade somebody of value, to get value in return.

They can upgrade the defense without trading either Couturier or Schenn. The upgrade may not be a top notch defenseman but maybe another second pairing player or third.

Thats the problem with the Flyers. They go chasing for replacements. I keep hearing they have to replace Timonen at some point but if you have a system you plug guys in. There is only one Timonen so your not going to replace him but you have to get a player that fits what you want to do.

If that makes sense.

I'm not against Bryzgalov but even if his defense stinks he should still have better numbers. He's being paid like a top notch goalie (even though hes not). I dont completely blame him but he can be better. The Flyers seem to think hes capable of bringing them to the promiseland. Will see what happens.

I could care less about his numbers. My worry is he's been very inconsistent over the past month or so, allowing questionable goals, etc. mixed in with some very good games.

I heard he's supposed to be pretty good someday? Anyone know? Or am I blowing orange flavored bubbles?

He's a pretty good prospect. Top freshman scoring defenseman in NCAA, then very good numbers as a soph last season. His offense has dipped this year, but his overall game has gotten good reviews.

Wade Redden rule Joe! That would still cost the Flyers $3,000,025 on the Cap.

So I am so torn on the Ranger vs Pit game tonight. I want us to get closer to the playoffs but I can't stomach rooting for the Pens. Ever.

I'd root for the Pens over the Rangers anyhow. When I was a kid the Pens were a joke and the Rangers gave the Flyers fits. Damned Mark Pavelich. I root for the USSR in Miracle because of that guy

That's sweet, I'm sure he's flattered.
In the real world, the new CBA only allows around 900,000 (or whatever the highest ELC is) to be shifted to the Ahl. So no more burying Walker in the backyard. Even if he clears waivers most of the cap hit will remain.
Or so I've heard

I'm going to go on the side of they need a replacement for Timonen. Especially if they stay with this Coach.

I haven't like the last couple of games he's played. His technique seemed off. I wonder if fatigue is a factor?
