Very fair. It's not even that I don't like Shattenkirk, I just don't like the notion that there is the potential for a return asking price to be Coots + more, or something along those lines, in which I think it's just one step forward, one back.
- Flyers_V88

I like Couturier but your not getting a player like Shattenkirk (who is 24) for nothing. It will cost a young forward without question.

Y don't you like byfug? Just curious
- JoeRussomanno

Not a very good defenseman. Too much of a rover, and lacks discipline in his play. Good offensively, but not the player I'm looking for. Plus the question marks about his weight.

I dont, I actually like Mez a lot someone had mentioned waving him so I said he would fetch something in return rather than let him go for nothing. Now if he could only stay healthy....
- flyerfan28

I mentioned waiving him only as a last resort if he can't return to form and no trade offers come in. I'm sure they could trade him, that was purely hypothetical.

Without question. But I say go big or go home. I'd be MUCH more willing to part with assets like Coots + for him as opposed to Shattenkirk, that's all.
- Flyers_V88

I would also but the Blues probably have zero interest in trading Pietrangelo. They have plenty of cap space.

Fair, I just think that given our situation as a team, there could be more effective pieces we could go after. I guess my point is, if you're gonna go half way, why not go all out and try for a Pietrangelo or something. Shattenkirk is not the long-term answer for our defensive problems. The only way I'd take him is if he came relatively cheap, as in no Coots, Schenn's, Simmonds, or top 6 players involved going the other way. I'd trade Matt Read straight-up, that's it lol
- Flyers_V88

I don't see st Louis dealing him. I think shattenkirk is a practical target. I disagree with you assessment in that the team absolutely needs a weber, peitrangelo (who has worse numbers than shatty this year but I agree is a better player). If L schenn keeps this up, you don't need the physicality of a weber but just an exceptional puck moving defenseman. That's shatty.

If he's not claimed, what good would waiving him do?

The chances of St.Louis giving up Pietrangelo arent very good.

Shattenkirk would be a more realistic person to acquire imo.

- stveshdy

I think there's zero percent chance St Louis lets Pietrangelo go. They'll match an offer sheet, and will not entertain a trade from us that doesn't include Giroux.

24 year old kid still. He has plenty of talent and is a very good defenseman even at his size which is 5'11 208lbs.
- stveshdy

To be near 210 at 5'11". The guy isn't undersized at all

I agree. I don't think he's that small. Besides todays game is more about skating and being able to move the puck.

Third best defenseman on his own team. Might even be 4th behind Hainsey.

Have the feeling Holmgren likes the guy. Has big size and can skate with a rocket from the point.

I think you are underrating Shattenkirk.. He is a solid two way player and an offensive force...

In 188 games he has 107 points.
Doughty has 91 points in his last 190 games.
PK has 104 in his last 189.
Yandle has 125 in his last 201
Enstrom 99 in his last 158

The Flyers covet a dynamic defenseman. I'm sure he's on their list.

He does have a howitzer of a shot . But I agree in that he's not quite what the team needs.

Since i have center ice I was stuck watching the Toronto feed and it was pretty bad on how they picked apart bryz. You would have though Leighton was in net, literally every little rebound or awkwardness was analyzed. Basically said all Toronto had to do was put pucks on net.

He'd be an upgrade, but I don't see how he fits. Who do you pair him with?

Grossmann.

Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Mez
Buff-Grossmann

That would be the answer if all these guys are here and healthy.
