The glaring, giant need on the Flyers blue line >>>>> Having both brothers.

The deal was supposed to go down around the deadline, I'm sure the Leafs were pushing hard to give you guys Aulie instead.

Not sure if this is true but I swear I read something where Schenn and Phaneuf didnt like each other at all. That true?

Rumor has it Lindros slept with his wife, and that's why he was traded.

Same. Shattenkirk is slightly overrated... He's only had one good year and he's isn't big at all, is average to decent defensively, and isn't a player I would target. Personally, I'd even rather have Yandle than Shattenkirk. Pietrangelo is the guy you wanna target... He's literally LIGHT YEARS better than Shattenkirk in EVERY aspect of the game.

Shattenkirk is a very good defenseman.

I remember that too. Just a WAG, but I wonder Homer was waiting as long as he could to see if the switch would flip for JvR with the playoffs coming up.

When the switch didn't flip, he probably felt better about pulling the trigger.

So, Lindros and Carter are Eskimo brothers with Dion Phaneuf's wife?

So confusing.

Well... they didn't start hating on him until spring 1995 then it fomented into a torrent of hate by 1997.

I've backed off my lavy firing agenda. It seems like the ship is righted, but we'll see. Gotta give credit where it's due.

Compared to a Pietrangelo? Not a chance. Sorry, but if you had to choose between the two, I'd find it hard to make ANY kind of argument except financially, that Shattenkirk is the guy you wanna target if you had the chance to choose...

Shattenkirk is good obviously, but he's not the guy the Flyers should be targetting at all. We need someone who is bigger, stronger, and has similar offensive strengths. Hence a Pietrangelo, Buf, Weber, etc...

Mez could very easily fetch something in a trade, decent cap hit last year of deal and no NTC.
- flyerfan28

I agree that he can get something in a trade if he is healthy.
However, if he is healthy, why do you want to trade him?

YUUUUUUUUP. Shattenkirk IS slightly overrated based on how people, speficially in this Flyers section talk about him... I don't know why everyone here seems to love him when he has one good season...

You missed it because Hall doesn't have three hands-both of his hands are on his stick. The knob of Reimer's stick gets caught up in Hall's stick, but Hall doesn't seem to grab it from the replay on NHL.com.

That said, Reimer has one foot in the crease at the point of contact. It could easily have been waved off

I never compared him to Pietrangelo. I'm just saying he is a very good young defenseman and is far from being overrated or an average defenseman. Shattenkirk would probably be the best defenseman on the team if he was acquired (imo).

Fair, I just think that given our situation as a team, there could be more effective pieces we could go after. I guess my point is, if you're gonna go half way, why not go all out and try for a Pietrangelo or something. Shattenkirk is not the long-term answer for our defensive problems. The only way I'd take him is if he came relatively cheap, as in no Coots, Schenn's, Simmonds, or top 6 players involved going the other way. I'd trade Matt Read straight-up, that's it lol

He's on pace for 49-50 pts in an 82 game season as a plus player after getting 43 last year. I like him over yandle Bc he's a bit younger. Not as good offensively but more well rounded. I offer couturier straight up

Cross Byfuglein off of your list and I can go along. Zero interest in Byfuglien. And would take Shattenkirk over him easily.

The chances of St.Louis giving up Pietrangelo arent very good.

Shattenkirk would be a more realistic person to acquire imo.

I dont, I actually like Mez a lot someone had mentioned waving him so I said he would fetch something in return rather than let him go for nothing. Now if he could only stay healthy....

24 year old kid still. He has plenty of talent and is a very good defenseman even at his size which is 5'11 208lbs.

Very fair. It's not even that I don't like Shattenkirk, I just don't like the notion that there is the potential for a return asking price to be Coots + more, or something along those lines, in which I think it's just one step forward, one back.

Without question. But I say go big or go home. I'd be MUCH more willing to part with assets like Coots + for him as opposed to Shattenkirk, that's all.
