The first blog after the deadline is a long one about the Flyers. What a shocker.

you might have this trade confused with the Weber offer sheet

Huskins has actually played OK, so far

compared to Kurtis Foster, he looks great

- Marc D

huskins sucks. two ways he plays on a team. the team defensive core sucks (flyers) or there is injuries (red wings).

So the Flyers will buyout Bryz this summer then he'll sign with another team for less money and go back the form he was in PHX...watch.

Why not go after Cory Schneider or something, I'm still scratching my head over here.

I guess Steve Mason was the missing piece. How is Philly wanting Mason a story? Thats like saying the Sabres are interested in Al Montoya....who cares?

I don't agree with this assessment at all. Bryz has easily been one of our best players this season, and has given this underwhelming squad of skaters a chance to win in almost every game. Elite? No, but I don't think it's as simple as "he's gone at the end of this year".

You have to remember that being one of your best players doesn't fit the authors write-up of Mason. He must have some credit to a vague (at best) analysis from a few years ago. In thay type of scenario you can't mix truth in the equation because the story (or saga) wouldn't make any sense. Simple as that

I don't think that really excuses an inaccurate description of Bryzgalov's season. He hasn't just been good on a comparative basis, he's consistently been a positive for this team. There room to debate how this matches up with the price he carries, but in short I think Ek is selling Bryz short here.

Just my $.02, though.

Just like Quarterbacks to Chicago, Philadelphia is where goalies go to die.

Couldn't agree more. Mason is anything BUT proven... People also forget that Mason played on a decent, and playoff bound, Columbus team that year.

Keep Bryz, let Mason play some games, and re-tool the team D as a whole. I tell you, Bryz can be the goalie we need if we just have a bit of faith.

Ok, serious question. As a RFA, Mason must be extended a qualifying offer of at least his current salary, which is $3.2 million, or he becomes an UFA. Can they extend an offer that starts at $3.2 mil, but declines over the course of the contract, say, yr 1 $3.2, yr2 $3.0, yr3 $2.8, thus creating a lower cap hit? Or, does every year of the contract have to be at $3.2 mil or more? Or, does the contract just have to AVERAGE $3.2 mil/yr?

they signed Mason to a one yr deal today, $ amount not announced, but it is at a discount to what the qualifying offer would have been

Does it matter? If every year after the first year is more than one dollar you are way overpaying a questionable backup. I can't believe anyone would pay Mase 3.2 mil next year, especially with the cap coming down.

I think Bryz has made a believer out of me, but I'd like another season to be sure. Buying him out this summer would be asinine imo.

Usually a central team in trade deadline rumors, the Philadelphia Flyers were something of an afterthought this year in what has been a down season for the club.

An afterthought except for being in on every rumor you posted.

It would just be so counter-productive. We need stability in net, and having a tandom of Mason and Bryz I think would give us that. Only having Mason could end up horrendous.

I think the Flyers owe Bryz another season to prove himself even more, and to allow the team to tighten the team D up.
