I know they didn't pay much for him and I know that something is better then nothing, but all the people talking about how Roy is the perfect fit in Vancouver seem nuts to me.

Soft player that will be ineffective against any team with an aggressive style.

- Lahey

Roy might be small, but he's not soft. He looked dangerous last night, every time he was on the ice he was creating chances. In fact, his line had 11 shots on goal versus 0 by the Oilers.

He's a perfect fit for this team and allows AV to match up better against other teams.

Yeah, that just seems like frivolous shopping by Gillis. Like Garrison - totally unnecessary move.

They really needed that Booth move to work out well.

- Morris

Who is shocked that it didn't though? That was a move a team like Edmonton should've made, not a contender who needs a sure thing. Gillis just doesn't have the balls to make the right move with regards to an aggressive forward that can play.

After Booth you would've thought they would've paid the price to get Ott. Instead they give up Hodgson who is playing amazing and get the plan B aggressive player in Kassian. Only to end up bringing a Hodgson player back in Roy.

41 games and 25 points.
Gillis went hard after Clowe, and a few other guys. I'm happy with Roy, I think he's a great fit for giving up very little.

He had one real good year, but two years that he was a real good regular season guy his numbers weren't good. Personally Jagr would've been the better option IMO.

Like I said it's better then nothing and you take him everyday of the week. But too many people have called him the perfect fit. Fit that will work, yes. Perfect fit not a (frank)ing chance.

Decent cap hit, but ya that is really horrible considering how he disappeared.

Those proven bugger guys won't come cheap. Still think we have to find that next guy that is drafted already and overpay in a deal. We have picks and prospects to use in an overpayment. Not sure we have cap space to get locked into contracts with those 4 guys you mentioned, all of whom are great players to have but all have major question marks surrounding them.

- Lahey

Yeah if we're going to throw spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks, I'd rather spend less money on a boom-bust guy.

Viktor Stalberg, Mason Raymond, Jack Skille and Lauri Korpikoski are all big FAs that can skate.

Or you could got the route of a guy like TK, Clutterbuck, Bickell or Matt Hendricks that even if they don't boom as surprise top 6ers could slot in on the 3rd line pretty well.

What a sh11ty game to spend that kind of money on. They didnt even show.

Funny story though... I got loser pissed after the game with jones, potter, fistric, and mostly dubnyk who i argued and drank with all night.

U forget they're just dudes who dont always take criticism so well. They actually do give a fuk what peeps say (the normal, coherent, non douchebags anyway)
He thinks most oiler fans are way too critical, and that hes played brilliant all year. He was even giving me his stat line when i criticized.
he says Theres nothing more he can do with that defence. Good guy, but a little defensive. Bought a sh1tload of drinks tho!!!

Jonesy's exactly the laidback dude ud think. Was kinda tryin to pick up my buddies gf. Funny stuff.
Potter was sloppy wasted and knows hes out the door at the end of the year.
Fistric was tryin to bang some mediocre skank.

Good timez....!

I was thinking about your road trip when I was watching the game. Sucks to have seen such a clunker.

Cool that you got to talk to those guys, and I kinda like that Dubby has a chip on his shoulder. Never want to hear a goalie rag on his defence though, as much as we all think it

Yeah, it was a dud. Still a great night though.

And He really does have a chip on his shoulder. He knows hes got somethin to prove

i dont want wanna make it sound like he was hatin on his d. I think he was just sayin 'listen man, Im doing what i can and playin pretty well" especially after repeated attacks from me.
Was abit defensive, but mostly took it all in stride.... and kept buyin rounds!! good guys, All of em.

I actually am.
Well tryin to be anyway.

But after a few drinks i can be brutally honest. Obviously Not too harshly or out of order, but Just mentioned the random softies and that as much as i want him to be, im unsure if hes our guy long term.

As i write those words, his defensiveness seems so much more reasonable!

Really Candid convo either way.

A 50 point pace is just fine for a second liner. People say the same about the Sedins and they're at a PPG pace the last few playoff years, it's secondary scoring that kills this team and the great thing about Roy is that he actually makes his wingers better too. I'm very glad that the Canucks got him instead of a team like the Hawks or Ducks.

Too soon to say which player would have been a better fit. Jagr would have been great for the PP and cycle game, but IMO this team has lacked the ability to score off of the rush this year and that's usually how Roy gets his points. Plus with Jagr there would have been a serious winger jam and still a lack of centers. The perfect fit would have been to land Roy then add a winger like Clowe(who they almost had) or Torres.

There wasn't a lot of guys that got traded that van could have gotten without unloading a goalie. They are right up against the cap and their D salaries really bind their hands for forwards.

The problem is they need to wait till summer so they can buy out Ballard and I hope Edler even though he just got his extension this year. Next year they have 4 d making over 4.5 mil and one at 4.2. Then one of their best is an RFA Who will probably sign for 2ish. Thats 24.9 mil in dmen or 40% of the cap. Then 15 % in 3 goalies. Then the Sedins, Kesler, booth and burrows make up 40%. So 95% of their salary is taken up by 4 forwards, their d and their goalies. Leaving about 1.5 mil to sign the other 8 people to make a minimum team. In theory but that 1.5 is already spent on other players and they only have 2 buyouts that don't count against the cap.

So Van saying that they didn't need to part with a goalie might not have been accurate. I am thinking this summer Lou, booth and Edler can all be had for a 7th round pick.

I'm a fan of kassian, but he seems like hes either a hit or miss. Some nights he looks like a possible clowe or stewart, then the next night he looks like Stortini.

for the oil i wouldn't mind them trying to aquire nolan.

I think Nolan is a very small piece to the puzzle to be honest. LA's whole 4th line for that matter. Even Colin Fraser looks good for them.
