Feaster came out and said in his press conference yesterday that management informed him their goal is the playoffs next year (LOL).

If thats the case, you're looking more like Vanek + MIN 1st + BUF 2nd. That gives them a goal scoring winger in Vanek, Plus 2 picks that they could always package to move up a couple spots in the 1st round from wherever MIN 1st lands.

Our 1st next year is untouchable right now, its too important to the rebuild. We have assets in Miller, Vanek that allow us not to give up next years 1st.

I dont see how a first next year is ok with rebuild but having another 1st this year isnt?

But hey if they want to go the Vanek route sure

If you could give me 2 top 5 picks this year and not be able to take the first overall pick next year I would do it in a heartbeat. The players in this draft that will be drafted 5-15 would be top 10 in almost any other draft

at the draft if its top 5 wont be a lottery

Technically, any non-playoff 1st round pick is a "lottery" pick now. As of this year, the odds for landing #1 overall will remain as they have in the past, but they plan on changing that in the future.

Team 1 25.0%
Team 2 18.8%
Team 3 14.2%
Team 4 10.7%
Team 5 8.1%
Team 6 6.2%
Team 7 4.7%
Team 8 3.6%
Team 9 2.7%
Team 10 2.1%
Team 11 1.5%
Team 12 1.1%
Team 13 0.8%
Team 14 0.5%

Team 14, even at 0.5% could win the lottery, and instead of moving up to pick #10 as they were only allowed in the past, will now be #1 overall.

If you can replace it in a trade or be able to keep Miller and Vanek then I'm open for it. We're talking a guy who is proven to be one of the best at the junior level (not at NHL level, of course) for a 15-25 pick this year, a 1-20 pick next year, an underperforming, small centerman, and a decent defenseman

Because next year is likely to be a top5/top10 pick with the direction the team is heading. It holds more value than our MIN 1st does this year.

Instead of giving up next years 1st, we have the assets to keep that, and still obtain another top 10 in this years draft. Therefore giving us 3 top 10's in 2 years instead of just 2.
