I would be naive to think that the PRESENT Patrick Kane could not get himself a balnk check back home to Buffalo...
....and ditto to Tazer and Winnipeg.
This was part of his argument...but I have to think based on Ryan Getszlaf's deal these guys can and will ask 12 mil in three years.... - wiz1901
It's not 3 years: it's two years after this one (semantics I know, but....)
Didn't Getszlaf get a cap hit of about $8MM? Can't see it going up 50% in two + years with the cap probably being below this year's cap in relevant year. |

Ahh...just found one article that says max allowable salary is $12M, but I'm looking for others. - eburgio
I remember that from the Weber offer sheet, but I wonder if that is the max cap hit |

Do you mean what Geno Malkin gets IN HIS NEW DEAL in 2014-15?
After the Penquins decides who goes, Letang or Geno?
You think Malkin is gonna stay at the 8.7 million salary, only 500,000 less than Getzlaf's annual salary????? - wiz1901
Getlaf's cap hit is 8.25, so Malkin is presently at a cap hit of 8.7. Crosby's cap hit stayed the same and is making $12M 2013-14-15-16 and then it drops to $10M.
I would assume that Malkin's cap hit will be higher than it is now, but no higher than Ovi's (9.5) |

Does that affect your opinions? |

As much as I was disappointed with the lack of activity by the Hawks at this trade deadline I really like one obscure trade they did make.
This Sauve deal reminds me so much of the Versteeg deal after doing some research on Sauve. Good skater, undersized, skilled, doesn't fit the Bruin mold. If our system fits his style as it did Versteeg, this former second rounder could be a steal. Face it, how much attention did the Versteeg deal get when it happened? |

This doesn't touch on the point I brought up. I posted about Boumeester's cap hit impacting the RFA's the Blues will have to re-sign this summer. - EKolb13
Blues ownership gave the greenlight to increase payroll, we had more cap space than any other team. That said, Blues are still a small market team. We don't have anyone in the system that is a top pairing LHD and the thought is that there will be exponential benefit to our blue chip RHDs in Petro and Shatty. It is obvious the Jay-Bo is not worth 6.8m. (6m next year I believe is his cap hit, so what's he worth, 4.5 ? So you're talking 1.5 m difference in overpayment to get a true 1st pairing LHD.) I don't believe this will mean the Blues will have trade one of their RFA's coming up, Petro, Shat, Stewart, Berglund. Keep in mind Andy Macdonald and his 4mil contract will be coming off the books. Hopefully Jay-Bo (And Leopold) can help the Blues make the playoffs and bring in some additional revenue. |

Do you have no faith in Toews wanting to stay in Chicago? Do you think he'd just chase money? I feel like going down as an all time great for an original 6 isn't a bad career |

Reading up on Suave, it also says that he is easily knocked off the puck and does not play a physical game at all.
That doesn't sound like Versteeg to me. Sounds more like another Blackhawks prospect, Brandon Pirri. |

No pain, no gain. Hear it at the health club. May we experience it with the Blackhawks? Will Bowman experience this if we are one and done? After all, McDonough can probably whisper anything in Rocky's ear, and the business/marketing success will be what Rocky hears or what registers loudest.
But what about the great faith and sports legacy of successful teams building through the farm system? Loosing first round consecutive years is not a good thing but does it mean Bowman looses his job? I wouldn't be surprised, but I would guess, no.
McDonough can be a real tyrant. He even has someone checking all the concession stands least they are not being run efficiently. So Stanley better chime in, Dale left us with fewer pieces to manipulate (move) with so many terrible first round draft choices which were total blunders. Yes, true that is. Mike Smith was terrible in drafting first rounders ....but Hayes and, so far, Olsen have not been home runs either.
Well these current top end prospects do take time to mature and the two at Rockford pus Terivainen look better than prospects have looked in our stble for years and years.
ut no one really knows if there is a blame game should we have a short playoff life. There is definitly some pain no trades were made, even if you believe there were too many holes to fil. But is Bowman going to be the one experiencing the no pain no gain? Or if he stays in office then late regular season 2014 perhaps some of these prospects will begin to emerge...you know...as depth players....maybe with a learning curve like Saad? |

The Versteeg/Bochenski deal was a classic case of a current GM (Tallon) exploiting a relatively new GM (Chiarelli), who was looking to clean house after taking the job.

What happened to Russell ? Why'd he fall out of favor ? - philco28
Hitchcock is very high on Russell actually and he seemed to be playing alot better the past few weeks, he's still tremendously undersized and got exposed last year in playoffs against Kings forecheck. Armstrong has been trying to land Jay-Bo since last year draft time. Blues see his combo of size and speed on the left side will compliment Petro on the first pair. I just wish he played with more toughness. I remember Michael Peca remarking he's the softest defender in the NHL. Though Lee Stempniak was quoted recently saying he thinks Bouwmeester is the best skater in the world. Hitch likes a up tempo, puck moving defense. This will be a new Blues look tonight. He'll have his hands full with Hossa back though... |

80 million for 8 years would be a bargin. I could see 9.5-10 million / per for those guys.
Franchise players. They are cheap now when compared to their peers. Not even top 25 in terms of cap hits. I think they deserve to get paid and paid very well and the Hawks should do the paying. |
