I agree with this. I think he's a good fit with a young team. I can see him staying.
- HonkFortheGoose

I think they keep him around. It sounds like he's had some real discussions with Darcy about the future. I'm interested in seeing what he can do in a full season next year.

Not that the refs haven't been awful to us this year some of our roster needs to work on their discipline. We've taken a lot of unnecessary penalties.

We should have traded up for Couturier when he fell.

Vanek for Couturier?

- PassionBucket16

I was pissed when Philly ended up with him.

Stupid Scott Howson!!!

don't know how Edmonton hasn't pulled it together yet. Maybe if they stopped taking all forwards.
- twistedwrister9

Incompetent management. The pics were easy. Their decisions to round out the bottom 6 and weak goaltending is their problem.

Just see it as a little more plausible now that we may have our 3rd line center
Although, if they kept Girgensons at the wing...
Girgensons-Larsson-Tropp
Could be one heck of a "checking" line

A very good shut down line in a few years

Oh I know....same happened to Couturier. Just if we're gonna do this rebuild thing let's do it right and get some high level picks. A la Chicago and Pitt(not Edmonton). still don't know how Edmonton hasn't pulled it together yet. Maybe if they stopped taking all forwards. They definitely should've drafted Murray instead of yakupov IMO. Or traded down in the 1st but thats neither here nor there. Will be painful to lose for a few years but I think I can get behind kids losing and playing hard over vets losing and playing like they don't give a Sh!t.
- twistedwrister9

I agree. Part of Edmonton's issue is they don't really have a decent core of vets for with the youngsters. Hemsky doesn't strike me as the type that would want to take the time to show the guys the ropes or anything like that. Horcoff may be the worst captain in NHL history. Smyth's best days are way behind him. Whitney can't stay healthy. Who does that really leave?

Actually, grammar and speech are two different things and trust me, speaking a language half ass is better then not speaking the language at all.....I am guessing you never travelled and only speak English or you would realize how much Germans and other non English speaking peeps appreciate making an attempt.....its ok, your comment shows it.

The penalties have gotten a bit better recently. But I think they need to work on that some more that's for sure.

Horcoff is a good captain but a poop player.

4th liner making 1st line money.

Top 10 bad contract in the league.

If they go deeper than PIT in the playoffs, Jarmo Kekalainen for GM of the year.

It's gonna be interesting to see how it works out for them, but I think in the end, their GM showed that he's not afraid to go after something. I think as much as it improved the team itself, it also did a lot for their reputation in the league in general.

If their goaltending can hold up they should make the playoffs. I don't see them winning a round because of who they would have to play but they are moving in the right direction

Your captain shouldn't be on your 4th line. Just like they shouldn't be in the pressbox for half the season, a la Craig Rivet.

The funny part about that is a lot of teams will look right past them and that's going to be their opening to be this year's "Cinderella."

With the way he was talking about Grigorenko early in the season, I think he likes having the young guys look up to him and ask him for help with stuff. I think it's a role that he feels comfortable in. I can see him staying for that very reason.
- HonkFortheGoose

Not saying he doesn't like it here,
But it's tough to see him passing up the chance to actually win
I guess we'll see

I'm rooting for them. Love the guys on the team and I hope they can actually bring some success to what has been probably the worst team in the NHL the past 10+ years.

He is one of the best to judge talent just look at the Blues when he was there as Head Scout. Not to start trouble but, that's what the Sabres need is a fresh voice to rite the ship.

The Blackhawks and Ducks have the leadership in place to make sure they don't look passed them IMO

Agreed. Being a former scout as a GM is a huge advantage, especially if you specialize in Europe like he does.

I was excited for them when they hired him. But starting next year they're in our conference, so there's a small part of me that wants them to tank every year like they pretty much have for their entire existence.

Chicago is going to need Sharp and Hossa healthy for the playoffs. If they don't have 1 of them, it's going to be a lot harder for them than it should be.
