just listened to his interview with duff too and darcy pretty much had to stop himself from saying "yeah but theres more players we need to get rid of"

so my guess is offseason they will purge everything else, have a terrible season (probably) and actually rebuild completely.

It's always tough when you add new pieces to a well oiled machine. I do they they will be fine though with or without Crosby

U think he'd rather re-sign here, then go play for say Pitt?
I think that's naive
And I wouldn't call him a "quitter" for doing so
He might like the Buffalo area a lot...
He prob like the idea of being on a team that has a LEGIT shot to win the cup a lot more though...
Doesn't he strike u as a guy that REALLY wants to win a cup?
After being stuck on crappy Dallas teams and now the Sabres, I think a team like Vancouver, LA, Chicago, Boston, etc will look really appealing to him...
And I'm sure all those teams would welcome a player like him
He's the perfect 3rd liner for a "contender"

- jdfitz77

Depends on what he wants. Does he want to go to a team to just be a small piece or does he want to be on a team where he's one of the big pieces? I can see his personality liking option 2.

He's been on playoff teams before. It's not like he's been mired on bad team after bad team after bad team.

In all reality, there are plenty of guys out there that would stay because they like the city/team. Regehr did that with Calgary for a long time. He was content to stay there instead of coming to a team that was expected to make the playoffs. If the owner doesn't go out there and convince him otherwise, he probably would have finished out his career in Calgary.

You can't just build a team around prospects. You need real NHL ready talent. Adding a 25 year old all star center is a hell of a piece to build around especially if you are moving your franchise goalie

yes your right, Backstrom is the guy I want showing my youngsters how to lead!

I wouldn't have had a problem with him. He was taken right before Grigorenko so that would have given us 3 picks from the 1st round last year.
- HonkFortheGoose

He also should've been a top5 pick
All those teams that drafted defensemen are gonna regret passing on him & Grigorenko IMO

And I know you're gonna yell at me for suggesting this
But Larsson is pretty much ready to be our 3rd line center now....
Which make Girgensons expendable if we need to trade young talent to someone
Not saying we will,
But they are the same type player
And I feel Larsson (right now at least) has a little more potential as a scorer
He's also a couple years older,
So that might not really be a fair assessment on my part

Bringing in Larsson gives them the time to let Girgensons really develop in Rochester. I think that's the best course of action to take with him. But as long as Darcy is the GM here, I don't think they move Girgensons for a least a few years.

two first round picks and two second round picks...Deja vu?

How great would it be if we could flip a couple of roster players and draft picks to land 2 and 3 overall

Mackinnon+Drouin+Armia on this team would be sick!

If Garth were grading this, he'd give him an A+ and hold it up to the rest of the class as a model.

He commented on my post about Ott/Regehr saying that Calgary wouldn't have resigned Regehr and then deleted it. Probably when he realized that they wouldn't have had to resign him as he was under contract already.

Auto correct on my phone changed a word so he wants to attack my grammar. He is just a little upset that I have intelligent thoughts and the best he can do is try to attack my English. Whatever

It would be absolutely sick if we could pull of a Sedin like draft day move and grab team Halifax

well who wouldn't like to be on a legit cup contending team? I think Ott would prosper on a team of younger guys. He just strikes me as someone who, as a well experienced NHLer, has things he can teach the young guys. I would think if you use him right and not put him on your bottom lines he would stay here. He's a role player.

With the way he was talking about Grigorenko early in the season, I think he likes having the young guys look up to him and ask him for help with stuff. I think it's a role that he feels comfortable in. I can see him staying for that very reason.

Funny you did the same thing earlier. Time to self reflect I think.
