True
Just saying now we'll have to pay him more now than we would've before the season

- jdfitz77

Without knowing what transpired, dk whos to blame.

Darcy could've called and Hodgson's camp said no thanks or Darcy didn't call.

10% raise for one year IMO.
- dadeadhead

That's what I think too
Not exactly the same situation, bc Hodgson played a full season, but I think I made my point in general

He could get hurt or have a poor season
What do u think Tropp will get extended at now? Minimum raise

- jdfitz77

If I were Cody I'd take my chances playing a season with top line minutes with Van and Pom. Kinda makes sense to me from Cody's perspective. Just sayin.

true...
But regardless, Darcy has a history of not getting contracts done till the last minute
He seems to be much more reactive then he is proactive

I see your point, and maybe that's exactly what happened...
But it was no sure thing he'd be on the top line all year either, esp w how lindy is known for juggling lines
And a hotshot draft pick like Grigorenko coming in
If Hodgson struggled & Grigorenko got off to a hot start, they could've been swapped pretty quickly

Either way, Darcy always seems to drag his feet on these things where good GMs find a way to get the job done

2 yr bridge deal (as I think he becomes a UFA at age 27) for 4 mil per
Max length deal at 5 mil per
5 yr deal he's a UFA at the end, 2 yr deal he get arb rights.
Guess one has to find the lesser of three evils.

- dadeadhead

I don't think it is good for us to sign Hodgson to a bridge deal. That means we have to deal with him in 2 years when many of our prospects should start being productive, and also be up for new contracts. Sign Hodgson to a long-term deal during an off season where we don't have many to deal with.

I also think he deserves a long-term deal, which also plays into the no-bridge-deal idea. He doesn't seem like the type of guy that gets lazy like Myers. He is serious about his off-season conditioning and game-tuning.

McCormick or Ellis probably
Maybe Tarnasky if they wanna get a look at another young guy?
I'm glad that Adam is gonna get a look
If nothing else, maybe he can have a good end to this season & up his trade value
He's gotta know this is prob his last chance... At least w the Sabres...
If we don't re-sign him, he'll catch on w another team, but likely not be given much of a chance to succeed over guys that were drafted by that organization

Yeah even if that happens we have Ennis up after this year and who knows what happens. Maybe he is expendable, if Grigorenko blows our minds (I don't think he will next year, but he will play a lot) Hodgson can shift down to 2C.. We have to see what next year brings.

Like I said, the lesser of 3 evils.

2 yr bridge deal(he's 25 at this point)
5 yr deal(he's 28 at this point)
or
Max 8 yr deal(he's 31 at this point)

Resigned it During the 92/93 season and was traded in that season. He started the season as the captain.

Yea I know I read that too....but he wasn't wearing the captain C when dealt

I remember him giving it up....if the list is captains being traded he technically wasn't.

Max deal at least gives us some fluxuation, and maybe a lower overall cap hit. Lowest I see him taking is 4.5 for a long-term deal. I think our better choices are longer than a bridge deal, whether its a max, or some other longer term.

Just an IMO.

Anything longer than 3 years and he's a UFA after it.

3 years could be the best IMO because he'll be 26. You then can sign him to an 8yr max taking him to 34.

I think the other three scenarios I gave are the likely 3 options.

Is anyone else a little worried that Armia's #'s arent much better than last years? Looks like he hasn't developed that much over this year. I watched every single World Junior game he was in and looked like a complete stud one shift and then was invisible the next.

I worry about his #'s too because it appears as though his team is one of the better teams in that league. Does anyone here get to watch him at all? I mean I've only seen a handful of games. I'm really hoping he can play in Roch this year after he's done across the pond.

Most likely but it's not like we're going anywhere special. Has Colin Jacobs played at all since he signed that you are aware of?
