I'm not referring to the beginning of his nhl days. I'm talking recent seasons. He has played in such bad shape he is put on bottom lines, he has missed whole periods while being on the bench. Those don't compute as total games missed but he isn't doing his job if he's just sitting on the bench taking up a spot when he isn't able to really play. The way he plays and the injuries he's got are going to continue to nag him and he's going to miss more and more games

i still dont understand the fascination of ott for captain. give him an a sure but why have the captain be someone who doesnt get the benefit of the doubt from refs and is top 5 hated players around the league

My reasons he should be captain.

1. Passionate. He gives a poop. He gives a whole ton of poops.
2. He's tough.
3. Tough and produces meaningful offense.
4. Leads by example.
5. Never gets down. You never see his legs or his mouth get tired. Even we were getting creamed out there he has the same exact approach to the game. Our other guys and the now former "core", were front runners. If things went well, fine. But when they didn't they got worse. And when they got that one accidental goal all of a sudden they had legs.

And where did we get with Captain nice guy Pomminvile as captain? Nowhere. And we still got screwed hard by the refs and the league.

I;ve been around Vanek since 2004. Trust me when I tell you that his body gets torn up over the course of regular season. Ive seen him with ice bags ace bandaged on ankles, shoulders. Welts, abrasions, contusions. He gets brutalized playing net front. To say nothing of staring down Ehrhoff's gun barrel.

I'm sorry but if you name Ott captain than he has to change how he plays. Captains can't lead by example by taking unsportsmanlike penalties and chirping everyone on the ice, he doesn't get the proper respect from the refs, hence the embellishment call against Boston

I hope you're right. That moron Schopp was posting about Ott being traded all day. I couldn't imagine what would have happened if he did. Fans would have burned the place down. When it comes to the fan base he is the one bright spot of this year.
