yeah, but you're going to complain about it because he didn't make that deal but honestly considering the two options: 1.) not making that deal 2.) making that deal. i'm pretty good with them NOT making that deal because i don't see that much of a difference in the two players and we can always trade stafford later. - FIREonICE
Who's complaining? i'm not I just posted what homer said. If Darcy backs out once he will do it again.

He said it the last year they owned the team i believe. He was on WGR one evening and I remember saying "piss off" out loud when he said it. - The_Inkwell
I remember hearing it during the press conference they had when Pegula took over the team. I never remember hearing the Golisano regime say anything like that. The only thing they ever said was that we needed to at least break even financially.
I think if he was healthy or healthier it would be a different story. there might have been a buzz about him. I think we can get a similar deal for him as we did pominville. - badgirrl

I could see us being good next year. I think Vanek will stay at least until next deadline. If Miller is moved we would need to get a good starter back plus pieces, but we could end up holding on to him too. I think Darcy is in an accelerated rebuild mode, and we could end up bouncing back like Montreal did this year.
We have about 50 million of cap space used up next year. That leaves us with 14 million to resign Hodgson, Weber, and probably Sulzer (about 5M, 1.5-2M, 1M, respectively). That is 6 million to work with, 10 million if we can get rid of Stafford. With 6 Million we could manage to sign one big name free agent or 2 decent free agents.
I think the FA market will be good this year, a lot of teams will be not re-signing players to get under the cap, or buying out players contracts. The increase in quantity or players and decrease in the demand (teams not willing to sign big contracts) will decrease those players' relative value. There is no reason why we can't sign 1-2 'big-name' free agents during the offseason.
