I wish we were able to make some trades weeks ago. I think some of the younger guys are more hungry and could have actually put some effort into their on ice performance. Last year was crushing to finish like that. Get your hopes up for nothing.

Agreed. That's why I think calling it in and rebuilding is the only way this team gets better. It's a good thing Darcy realizes it too.

I wish we could get 2 top 4 picks.... A line of Drouin/MacKinnon - MacKinnon/Drouin - Armia would be fantastic...

Agree with most of this.

I like Ott, but he isn't the guy you want at center ice pleading your team's case to the refs. Give him an A, sure. But his mouth/antics take him out of the capatincy IMO. Leave it vacant for a year and see who steps up. I'd say it goes to Hodgson, unless Myers plays up to expectations.

I hate to do it but I thought this was a good week for the Sabres and Darcy. You hate to lose a player like Pominville but at the end of the day - he is talented but was not the answer for the leader of the Sabres. We got some great value for the player and I think he will do great as a member of the Wild. I will be pulling for him. I think he was in a really bad spot in Buffalo - he is not a capitan. He was consistent as hell but not a leader. I think he will trive without the pressure of a team on his shoulders. Trading the other 3 on defense yielded some good return too. Leopold can stuff it - he complains about our locker room. I would consider him a veteran on the team - shouldn't he be vocal as a leader in the locker room? He loses credibility with those comments.

Onto the future and I don't think it is as dark as it appears. I think you retool next year and draft well. If Vanek and Miller aren't happy - get value from them and move on. Vanek should be happy Buffalo overpaid his services for the past 6 years and goalies are a dime a dozen in this league. I would prefer to build off those two but they are part of the problem too - let's not forget.

You take what you have and strategically add. You slap the C on Ott and tell him this is your team and give him an extension. Hodgson is a solid young player - he leads all 2 year players in points. He was just a rookie last year. You keep Vanek on his wing and maybe a Leino or Ott on the other wing. Ennis is talented - Foligno is really just a rookie. Our defense is not terrible and you have a solid farm team.

I agree with your view on Pominville. I think everything got to be too much for him. I think he will do well in Minnesota. I don't think Ott gets the C or rather I wouldn't give him the C just yet. I would rip Staffords A off and give it to Ott. I move on past Vanek. Miller I don't really see staying. I'm torn on it. If you are going the young route you can't have Miller flipping out on the kids when they make mistakes. Todays youth don't respond to that sort of attitude.

Why have one just to have one? Let the leaders emerge and pick the guy who earns it the most. Don't cheapen it

Regier was asked about it earlier. He said he would need to have a conversation with Rolston. I don't see them naming one though. There's no one on this roster that I would say is up to the challenge right now. I don't think I would name one for next season either. Make someone step up and prove they want it and deserve it.
