Just talked to the Columbus blogger on this site and here's his take:

Brassard is skilled but hasn't come close to fufilling his potential. He has a great shot and if Torts can find the right linemwates he could be a decent complementary offensive piece on one of the top three lines. He's not overly physical so not sure what to expect there.

Moore is a solid, puck moving D with some size that wasn't getting a chance in Columbus. For some reason Richards was stuck giving Aucoin the ice time even though he has been terrible this year. This is a good player who could develop quickly into a solid 2nd pair D.

Dorsett is exactly what Prust was for the Rangers. He is not a small guy but will throw down with anyone. He kills penalties and can chip in some on offense. He's not going to blow you away with his skill but can play a regular shift. It's too bad he is hurt right now because he could really help the Rangers ont he 3rd or 4th lines. He's still under contract I believe for one or two more years at a very affordable rate however.

Unfortunantly for him, thats the only team he scores against.

You guys should have traded JT as a show of good faith, since we traded gaborik.

- TrueBlue9182

Honestly I didn't see this trade coming. I would have figured you guys would add offense instead of trading it. I know Gabby has been bad this year but he is a true sniper and I would love for him to ride shotgun with JT. He would score 50 playing along side him

It does however give you guys cap space to resign some of your younger guys and maybe add a piece in the summer.

Seems to me that you guys got a pretty decent return. Kind of surprised there are so many complainers over here. Thought I was on the Flyers thread for a second.

- FlyerGuy

Yeh, surprising we have complainers. We are last in the league in goals, and we just traded the guy who was third in the league in goals last year, for a bust-out in Brassard, an injured player in Dorsett, and a project in Moore.

Glen, that makes me hate this trade even more. I want a first or some great assets which I dont feel we added.

I better hear that we got our first in the deal and that was missed by TSN cause thsi sucks. Brassard seems way overrated.

I think this deal was as much about getting that cap hit off next year's books. Solid return but am surprised they couldn't wriggle at least the Kings 1st back in this trade.

I know the deal looks disappointing today. But I think you need to take a longer view. The Rangers have some good young players coming up for contract this summer. This gives them the financial flexibility to be able to protect their young RFAs.

Columbus looks very good right now. They obviously like dealing with the Rangers. The rosters are at the tipping point. We will be able to follow the Rangers West and Jackets East over the balance of the season.

In terms of next year we added $2M in salary. How are we using that to drastically improve the team? I dotn like it. Get better assets

Brassard is a nice skater, makes pretty plays. Not much jam in his game.

Too bad Brodeur has scored more often than Gaborik of late, really Pete, the Gabby thing was over here & him & Torts were never gonna get back on the same page.

Could more have been gotten for Gabby? Probably, but Sather took the best deal he could get given the deadline.

Be careful what you wish for.

Grit players are a dime a dozen.

Skilled goal scorers are a bit more rare.

2 scrubs, a project defenseman and a 6th round pick.

JD just may have taken Slats to the cleaners on this. the 3 new guys are pulling down 5 million in cap hit.

This has Torts all over it. Rather see Kreider and Miller in the lineup getting experience instead of three guys from Columbus. Are these 3 better than those two????????

Gaborik, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon, & 2013 1st-round pick FOR Rick Nash, Steven Delisle, Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett John Moore & Conditional 2013 3rd-round pick.

Am I right?

People keep forgetting this, the Gaborik of last yr is last yr, the guy has been HORRIBLE this yr, can't score on breakaways, looks lost out there. And fair or not, the Coach & him are at major odds & clearly the Coach aint going nowhere, as apparent by today's trade.

Exactly, and that 7.5 mil was unappealing to most teams. Subtracting it from the Rangers is huge especially going into this off season.
