Saying Dorsett is similar to Prust is idiotic. Yeah, they both can fight, but Prust is a player who was a strong leader for Rangers and penalty killer. Should never had let Prust go. Sather is pretty funny as a GM lately

He was Top 5 in the league in goals 2 of his 3 years here. He was hardly a failure.

Yes, it's true, but he had to go, now was as good as time as any, and I believe they got a good return for him.

Vin I think that this is the right direction for this team. I look at this team now and I see a better version of it from top to bottom compared to last season with the subtraction of Gabby and addition of Nash. This team just became a tough MOFO team to play against again IMO.
- adwolf130

I agree, still would have liked to have seen Gabby raising the Cup in NY, he's a better player than when we signed him.

Dorsett was an "A" in Columbus, go complain about Snow's inability to make a deal in your own thread

But he leaves with no ring and a boat load of money.

I just don't know. The obvious upside is the cap space that just opened up. There's definitely potential that this works out in our favor, but at first look I feel we lost on this one. Sure Gabby struggled this year, but a proven 30/40 goal scorer is hard to replace. I know some have said it already, but my first thought was that he'll score 30+ next year and will be playing in our division. I really liked him, just sucks that he had such a bad season this year. I wish him luck.

And Gabby looked like he was about ready to breakout...

We turn 1 player to 3 and save $2M plus the cost of those 2 players we do not need now.. that does help.

John Moore (900k) and Brassard (3.2M) are RFAs in 2014

Dorsett ($1.6M) is signed till summer 2015.

Word! Now lets go out & (frank) the Penguins up tonight!

Yeh, sure. We are going to lose 9-0 to a team that actually plays the game of hockey, and not soccer on skates.

Alright, now that I got that out of me, go team!!!!

You can't when a guy is soft AND makes 7.5 mill per, even if it is only one year left. This was a classic salary dump. Good move

The cap space alone for this deal is enough for me. This will allow them to lock up Mac Truck and Step long term.

a lot of jackets fans are pissed about this trade. They see Gaborik as over-the-hill.

7.5 million playing on the 3rd doesn't grow on trees either. Needed to be done.

Didn't need a deal. Islanders are loaded with their own talent coming up the system. Hopefully we knock you out of the playoffs so Columbus gets a lottery pick

this is because of the 50 contract thing:

AGrossRecord: As part of Gaborik trade, D Steven Delisle, 22, and D Blake Parlett, 23, headed to Jackets.

You were ok with a 7.5 million dollar, 3rd line RW? If you were then you could kiss Mcdonagh goodbye, because a team would have signed him to a huge offer sheet.
