Did anyone watch the NHL network last night? They had a trade call that was heard by the league, on the broadcast. Gorton was the one that got Gaborik to agree to the deal. I think he's now running this show.

Columbus was not on Gaborik's list of 10 teams, so it makes sense someone had to talk and get him to agree.

Interesting, no doubt. Wish Gaborik and the Jackets nothing but the best.

On Sportsnet Radio, Columbus President John Davidson talked about how the Marian Gaborik trade developed.

JD said that the two sides were talking and that when the topic switched to Gaborik, the Rangers said that they wouldn’t move him unless they got the right package in return.

After some discussion, JD said that the two sides agreed on a package that worked for both teams. JD said that he thinks it is a trade that will be good for both the Rangers and Blue Jackets.

JD also said that he was happy that the former Columbus players were able to make such an immediate impact with the Rangers last night.

I'm not hearing good news bout #penguins Sidney Crosby. Being told he is likely out for rest of season with concussion symptoms

You see Bergeron? Played the other night vs. the Sens. Literally, the most innocent looking contact to his helmit and he's out with a concussion. Just crazy with the guys who have sustained multiplr head injuries. Knock on wood, Staal does't have another one.

Everytime he gets hit i think about it.

Needless to say when he got hit in the face, it was the second thing i thought of after a broken orbital bone and permanent eye damage.

Staal is very lucky.

JD divulging a lot more about these deals then our own GM did. Francesa got that more stupid when it came to hockey after JD left here as a broadcaster. Mike & Dog had him on all the time, he was they're "go to" hockey guy.

Is this being reported anywhere else, or is it just an overly anxious philly reporter?

I'd take this with a hefty dose of salt grains. Eskin is a buffoon... Hooked in, but mysteriously way off in the ways of prognostication and analysis. He is not much of an authority on Philly sports. I'd suspect he's way less reliable when it comes to locations outside his jurisdiction, like Pittsburgh.

From looking around it seems the only people reporting this are people that cite the philly reporter.

Not sure how credible it is.

in 1976, Phil Esposito was miserable, and I mean miserable about being a Ranger. In order to appease him, the Rangers acquired his buddy Ken Hodge from his Bruins days. Espo told management "Get me Hodgie"

so the Rangers traded 22 year old Rick Middleton, who went on to score close to 500 goals and 1000 points in the NHL for 32 year old Hodge who played one full season for the Rangers before being sent to the minors the following year.

You couldn't get more opposite a trade than what the Rangers did with Gaborik yesterday. The typical Rangers back in the day would have traded three guys in their early 20's for a 32 year old. Very opposite.

- jimbro83

That is true only *if* gabby goes all hodge I.e. immediately down
The crapper, which I doubt. Also doubt there's a 500 goal scorer in the mix.
Harry Sinden was pretty good at dealing guys on the brink of collapse
Like Pederson for Neely and Wesley.
