there was a lot of moaning from very respectable, knowledgable Ranger fans, like our own Pete, in regards to the deal, about us not getting a first rounder back in the trade. And I can respect that.
But, I submit to you Pete, if you are reading, that after seeing John Moore's skating ability, that he, John Moore, is more valuable to this team than any mid to late first rounder that would pan out 3-4 years from now. I definitely saw glimpses of why he was taken in the first round 4 years ago, and I am excited about his potential.
I am also excited not to have to see Hamrlik's quicksand skating anymore. - jimbro83
How long before he hits the waiver wire? Praying Staal comes back. How good do we look on the blueline going forward...

I still find it funny that Boston actually traded FOR Wade Redden.
Last night Pitt looked a tad lost...almost like they and the Rangers switched identities for a game.
The new players were a huge spark and guys like Richards and Boyle seemed energized by it. Moore is a huge upgrade to Hamrlik; maybe even Strahlman, too. Let's hope the Rangers can keep this up.
Playoff or no playoffs, Clowe is a keeper. - mames11
Right now it feels like the Penguins may have maneuvered their way out of chance to win the cup. Its only a 2 game losing streak and I am sure they will find it again but all those trades IMO have threatened their pre-trade chemistry.
Its easier to make moves like the Rangers did when chemisrty was non existent which is why the Rangers stayed away from doing anything crazy last season... |

a healthy Staal, our left handed blueliners look like this:
Staal
Del Zotto
McDonagh
Moore
and, down the line Brady Skjei

Penguins are the only team in the league allowed to use injuries as an excuse when they lose.
With all the injuries we have had this season, including still without arguably our best defenseman, anytime we said guys were out it was always NO!!! NO!! making excuses!! blah blah blah
I saw Iginla, Malkin, Neal and Kunitz out there last night, that's not enough star power? - jimbro83
Did Malkin, Iginla, & Neal even play last night. I didn't notice them. And that's a testament to how the Rangers played. They came out aggressive and took it to Pittsburgh, and never let up. It was beautiful. Hopefully they can keep it up. |

Kunitz annoys me. |

Blog will be up later. Two themes:
1) it's one game. A great win, but one game
2) For all the focus on Crosby being out, Pittsburgh not having Letang and especially Martin has a much greater impact on their team. |

Was last night great? Yes. Will we like Brssard Moore and Dorsett? In the end yes. Do I still think we should of been able to get more for a 2 time 40 goal scorer in the last 3 years in Gaborik when I see Pomminville getting what he got and it seemingly being a sellers market? Yes.
Even if Moore pans out to be a good top 4 Dman, Dorset becomes Prust, and Brassard adds a little to his game (mid 50 poitn player rather than 40s). It will be deemed a good trade and I will be happy we made the trade. But it still doesn't change the fact that we should of been able to get more. Same goes the other way. Whether Gaborik scores 50 or becomes Gomez 2.0 is of no concern to me or the Rangers. I still think we should of been able to get more. Hope that makes sense, I wish I had a good analogy
Also, please explain this Hodge for Middleton without me havign to google it. Thanks |

It is one game but it didn't resemble anything like previous 35. Maybe thats extra adrenaline or what have you but it certainly feels good. |

As much as we want to credit the newbies it seemed the guys were a little relieved the deadline had passed.
Richards, Boyle, Asham, Powe, and A little of Pyatt, all played extremely well last night. |

That was my problem with the trade. I thought if traded Gaborik would at least bring us back our 1st we lost in this deep draft. The new guys looked awesome last night and I admit after the results of game 1 I looked foolish for bashing it. But also still think the Rangers should have got more than what they did for a guy as talented as Gaborik.

Yes, good point. Especially Boyle. Powe as a PK specialist has shown too. |

Gotta put it into perspective, this wasn't a sell like Pominville, Buffalo got prospects and picks, the Wild overpaid but we got back established players and a more developed prospect, I would have liked our pick back but this season was not a loss. |

in 1976, Phil Esposito was miserable, and I mean miserable about being a Ranger. In order to appease him, the Rangers acquired his buddy Ken Hodge from his Bruins days. Espo told management "Get me Hodgie"
so the Rangers traded 22 year old Rick Middleton, who went on to score close to 500 goals and 1000 points in the NHL for 32 year old Hodge who played one full season for the Rangers before being sent to the minors the following year.
You couldn't get more opposite a trade than what the Rangers did with Gaborik yesterday. The typical Rangers back in the day would have traded three guys in their early 20's for a 32 year old. Very opposite.

like I said earlier, I think John Moore is actually better value than a mid to late first round pick this June. |

You couldn't have scripted that outcome last night. Was 1 game, but man, just bring that passion/energy that they did last night & things will b ok.
And I just think its small when certain people go so over the top like some did yesterday with they're criticism & can't come back around for a mea culpa, its ok to admit you are wrong, again, even for 1 game/day. Talking to you RangerSavor. - B2B76
