Yupp.... Liek I said they are tryign to undo the trade and its ramifications

Brassard = AA
Dorsett = Prust
Clowe = Dubi
Moore = Erixon

How did Pomminville get THAT much more than Gabby is beyond me

- mrhattrick27

the contract. Plus Pominville is much more of a two way player, a leader than Gaborik ever could dream of

Very, very, very unhappy with this deal. I knew Gabby was on his way out but all we fetched for him was the punching bag Dorsett and Brassard? Mehhhhhhh

Hate to say it but this is eerily similar to the Nash deal insofar as we traded a star sniper to add depth just months after trading depth for a sniper. In essence it's like trading Gaborik and a first round pick for Nash then adding Clowe in a seperate deal.
- gkmkiller

Exactly, it's like a reversal of the Nash deal. I don't get it.

the fact that the rangers are making these trades in an attempt to replace brandon (frank)ing prust should tell us something about who is pulling the strings in this organization. this pretty much guarantees gaborik will go back to his old ways next season and score 35+
- Why So Serious

I agree. It was also Torts, & not Sather, that said after Prust left that "he was only another player that once played for the Rangers". I'm glad Prust gave his similar response back to it & Torts during his Garden return with the Habs; by substituting the word "COACH" to replace the word "PLAYER" here.

He will be in Torts dog house immediately. Honestly Im tired of this Torts bullpoop.
- mrhattrick27

they have been scouting Brassard forever, I think they think very highly of him.

There are actually players succeeding under Torts around here, despite the general concensus

You all know my view, but my unltimate decision will come after I see how the Rangers use the $ savings. Separately, hate the trade for the Caps, I like Erat, but muich prefer Forsberg's upside.

people are just completely discounting Brassard, it's a little crazy
- jimbro83

Sometimes a player like this can breakout when moved to a different team. I will say this having watched him; his biggest fault is he doesn't shoot the puck enough. he has a great shot but doesn't use it enough. He might come in and do a good job but Torts is going to have to find the right linemates for him.

However we did lose a lot of heart and soul with Dubi, Prust and Feds leaving. Dorsett and Clowe definitely provide that element.

I am shocked by some of the comments here on this deal. I think it is a very good trade. We get rid of a guy who will never do anything extra to score a goal (like a Nash for example). Let's face it, great talent but unless the puck ends up on his stick while in an opportunistic position, he does not get the job done. Good move for the future of the team, not necessarily with the acquisitions in this particular trade. They added much needed depth on this club. John Moore will be a good bottom end dman for this team. Brassard has upside and is a Rangers type guy and Dorsett is a guy that would fit in anywhere. Good trade!

Edit...How the hell could I forget the Salary dump!!!!!!!!

the future could be Stepan and Brassard as the top two centers ultimately with a Richards buyout in summer of 2014

Fact: Gaborik had two 40+ goal seasons in New York under John Tortorella.
Fact: prior to coming to New York Gaborik had one 40-goal campaign in the seven? seasons he was in Minny.

Fact: Before coming to New York and playing under John Tortorella, Brandon Prust was a nobody; an extra body. After leaving New York to accept $10M from Montreal, Prust is a player widely respected for doing the little things it takes to win games in the NHL.

I can go on but I think this supports your assertion that Torts has helped mold players into terrific NHL contributors.

I think the people who hated Torts going into day were looking for a reason to explode and they found one. But this theory that he and his "system" make players suck is just wrong and we are smarter than that around here.

after thinking about the move for a while, i'm starting to like it a bit more.

this spot solidifies our 3rd line center so we don't need to rush miller and boyle can be bumped down, adds a prust-type player, and gets hamrlik off the lineup.

it also opens up a top 6 spot for hagelin/kreider to have. part of the reason that torts didn't play kreider a lot was cuz there weren't any spots. he wasn't going to play over gabby, richards, nash, stepan, hagelin, cally, miller, and even clowe.

eventually, it's gonna be something like:
Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Kreider/Miller - Richards - Cally
Miller/Kreider - Brassard - MZA
Clowe - Boyle - Dorsett/Asham/Powe/Pyatt

McD - Girardi
Staal - MDZ
Stralman - Moore

I'm happy only because Gaborik kills the Isles every time they play
- Vukota

At least an Islander fan before another Rangers fan would post what I said earlier in regards to where the Rangers goals are going to come from now against theIsles.

Wake up you Rangers fans who loved this Tortorella trade!
But maybe it will lead to his firing and hiring by the Islanders for next season. That would be the only possible good result of it.

I think the main reason Gaborik is not here is that he is simply making too much money and with our pending RFA's and the cap going down next year, something had to give. If you look at the Rangers salary structure, the only way to shed salary without giving up someone important would have been to give away Boyle and Pyatt. That doesn't save too much money and we wouldn't get much in return. Of the high salary guys on our roster we weren;t trading Girardi, Staal, Callahan or Nash and no one would touch Richards contract under the current CBA. At least by making this move they acquire some useful pieces and save money.

Trust me when I tell you that we will like Dorsett when he gets healthy enough to play. He isn't all that much unlike Prust to be honest and I liked Prust a lot when he was a Ranger. Those of you who know me on Facebook probably remember that my profile pic was at one point actually a shot my wife took in LA at Prust's first game as a Ranger when he beat up Brandon Segal, then of the Kings.

I am still waiting for further explanation as to how this trade compares to Rick Middleton for Ken Hodge

Stop with the Tortorella trade bidness. This was as much a financial move as anything else. Gabby scored 40 twice under Torts. You come off sounding completely lost. They were going to she'd his salary anyways. I wish they got more back for him too but stop blaming Tortorella for this.

I agree with u glen BUT the cost of gabby's 2 40+ goal season's was torts wearing him down mentally. I know how he coaches but not everyone has the same mental makeup and some will wear out. that's not to say go all loosy goosy on him and have hand holding sessions saying everything is gonna be alright when things r going bad but to keep gluing him to the bench and kick him around the lineup when u just keep trotting out boyle every night when he has been absolutely abysmal and then give him p less p time to boot. the ain't right. watching the game on Monday vs. the peg gabby looked pretty decent, had some good scoring chances and showed signs of a potential break out from this funk he's been in.

but I want to see the look on torts face next season when CBJ comes to our division and gabby scores at will on hank just like dupuis and antropov continuously torment them only it will be the hat trick variety or for s and g's replicate the 5 goal game 6 yrs ago. we all remember that. I just feel overall trading a 3 time 40 goal scorer from a team that can't score is just mind boggling. but a lot of slat's moves in the ten yrs he's been here are head scratchers normally in FA signings, he's usually better in the trade department but for this I give him an F-.

It makes players better. But he also needs to adjust to certain players styles liek Babcock did with the Wings.

Like Pete said, we are hauling lumber with a lambo. And we jsut traded in the lambo for a pick up truck again. The lambo is nicer if you actually adjust to it and on the surface your trading a lambo for a pickup. But I guess it makes sense if all you wanna do is haul lumber and nothing more
