Hamilton said they're quiet but there's no reason why. I remember when Lydman was here they used to talk about him playing heavy metal in the locker room. I think the problem is that the team ended up with too many guys who seem to be a lot more introverted than extroverted.

They need a "Marty Biron" type of guy it seems. I know Rolston said that part of the problem on the ice is they're not communicating with each other. Not surprising since they apparently don't communicate in the locker room either.

Could be right. Team could be depressed from not having a winning record. or just tired of the same ole. Ott seems like a spark. but could have been repressed by pommer being in the room and not wanting to step on any toes.

You forgot the "magically steal the #1 from Florida" aspect.

Like I said if we can get one take Drouin. I am ok with Mike Weber (not saying he is Jones) being on the team next year. Its rebuild mode lets see what the kids have.

Because Ott could prob go play in Pitt, or Vancouver, or Chicago, or pretty much anywhere he wants
What contender wouldn't want a player like Ott?
And why wouldn't he wanna play for a contender?

We'll just have to see how things turn out when the next movements are made . I was hoping for more today .

To me it's kinda funny that the only player that wanted to get traded per reports is still on the team. I'ts a bass ackwards word we live in.

Good points! I think Ennis could be a commodity in the off season
- Stripes77

I want to keep Ennis unless we get a center better than Hodgson. I don't have a problem with Hodgson as our #1, he is only going to get better. We should sign him to a long-term deal IMO, not a bridge contract.

Hodgson's work ethic is his greatest asset. Over this offseason he worked on his skating and he looks much quicker, and tuned up his faceoffs a bit too (could be better but there was an improvement). Next year he will fine-tune other aspects of his game.

I like Ennis a lot, and I feel like the FA market will be good for buyers because many teams will need to scramble to get under the cap. We have 1 expensive RFA to sign (Hodgson ~ 5 million), 1 cheap RFA to sign (Weber ~1.5-2 million) and after that a lot is up in the air. Probably re-sign Sulzer. Flynn is also an RFA we will probably sign. That's with like 7 million to mess around with (Assuming 50 million is already spent, and we are keeping Stafford).

I think that there will be some great FA assets available, and prices will be depressed because of the Salary Cap.

It takes time to build a 9th place team.

I don't think it's just this year though. I think it goes back a while. I can see how that could be an issue for this team. The players themselves aren't bad, but the combination of them doesn't work well. Nothing sends a message more than trading your Captain though. In reality, they've now traded two A's and the C in the last 12ish months.

I agree but we arent getting anywhere with Miller lets move him while we can and find out.
- Stripes77

Agree
Miller, Vanek & Ott will all be traded IMO bc I doubt they'll wanna sign extensions and we should get a good return for them
We could easily have THREE more #1 picks in this next draft

I don't know, either that or Darcy wanted too much.

But this is just one part of it. There's actually been a lot of movement in the offseasons as opposed to the deadline the last few years. I bet Darcy is really active at the draft. That's when you'll start to really get a good idea of what they're trying to accomplish.
- HonkFortheGoose

True
I'm def interested to see if he uses these picks or trades them for roster players
And it'll also be telling what type of return we get if we do trade more guys in the offseason

No one is gonna like this...

But with the big3 likely gone,
Why would Ott wanna stick around and Captain a bunch of kids?
When he becomes UFA,
I'd imagine he could pretty much have his choice of any team in the league

- jdfitz77

He plays with heart and character, pay him.

I know, easier said than done.

Do we use our amnesty buyout?

Well, as of right now, they have 2 1st and 2 2nds for the draft this year. They had the same thing last year and ended up trading one of the 2nds to move up a bit in the first. I can see him doing something like that again.

Well depending on what happens at the draft (trades, the draft picks) Vanek might want to stick around. I do see Miller being dealt in the offseason though

Physically he may be close to 100% but mentally, it's takes a lot longer to regain confidence in your knee (speaking from experience)
- madcow251

He made a really nice move to get around a couple of defenders and almost scored, but did set up a goal in his first game back.

Me too
I'm interested to see what Homer finds our about this Stafford to Wash trade that didn't end up happening
I also am kind of surprised that Ott didn't get dealt
The "1st" that was "on the table" must have been from a really good team (Chicago?) and likely to be a very late 1st rounder
Bc if it was someone like Wash or Philly I bet we'd have done it
