Minnesota has the largest prospect crop in the NHL. I think they could be flexible in Darcy's demands and did well.

I don't want it to be thought I don't approve of of the Pommer deal. I have said already he did a very nice job on that deal.
But the Leo and Regehr deals anyone could have done.

I dont recall in the past 5 years that sabres selling at the deadline. This is the first.. We usually are buyers and trade away 2nd rounders for garbage

Maybe Grigo comes back for a few games too but I think that would take him a year closer to UFA... that whole 22 game thing.

Maybe the Sabres plan is to get a top 3 pick. If they get #2, wait to see who goes #1, then be in a position to trade up for the #3 to take MacKinnon and Drouin.

Last draft looks solid but only time will tell. I cant wait for Kea honestly. Needs to gain some weight but he has size and developed a scoring touch this year. Think Gaustad who will fight more and score more than 5 goals a year!!

Ott/Pardy/Roy and Kassian/Grags/Hodgson/Sulzer weren't direct selling trades. I've been thrilled with both of those moves. Trading for Ehrhoff's rights was another non-seller move that's worked out great. Gaustad/1st you can make a case for, but again, such a success for Regier that who cares? I'm willing to keep him around, his recent work has been great. His biggest blunders have been the Myers and Leino deals, but it's arguable that both players have time to make their contracts worthwhile.

Maybe teams didn't offer Darcy a good enough deal for Staff, or maybe the speculation that the deal didn't get done in time is true?
