He'll start maybe two games this season and they won't resign him. He is RFA this summer.

Who knows what Holmgren is thinking. Why didn't he ask for Mason as part of the Bobrovsky trade?

Gaborik is the cog that gets the Blue Jackets into the playoffs this year.
That talent playing in a city with no and i mean NOOOOO pressure is going to be a huge boost for Gaborik. He has shown he responds in those types of situations. CBJ is going to be fun to start a rivalry with next year. Not to mention they have some hateable guys on that roster.

I don't know if he will. Is he really better than Nash? I do agree that they will challenge for a playoff spot, but it has more to do with the pieces acquired in the Nash trade (Anisimov/Dubinsky) and stealing Bobrovsky from the Flyers.

Exactly champ! If he had come to Pitt, I'd be glad.

quick question for the Pens fans.

How does Pitt afford Crosby, Malkin, MAF, Neal, Iggy, Letang, Kunitz, etc. under the cap next year?

They have built quite a collection of forwards (best in recent memory w/ maybe some exceptions I can't think of) but curious about the cost.

Iggy at $4M, Kunitz $3.5M....Malkin $9.5M.....Letang is the problem...if he takes a bit less than his market value, he stays. $6-6.5M.

I would rather keep Letang than any other player (ex Crosby / Malkin)

Next year isn't a big problem. Raises for Malkin and Letang aren't due til 14 - 15. Iggy could just be a pure rental. Just go to cap central and see how much money they have committed. There's no real threat of losing any of the core next year even as the cap goes down. 14 - 15 will be more interesting.

It comes down between Malkin or Letang. It's not a hard decision who I trade.

Next year isn't the problem. It's the next year.

You say that now, but you may change your mind after Despres, Harrington, Pouliot, and Mattaa develop further

Yeah, Letang will be traded if he doesn't agree to an extension this summer.....probably 7 mil max. Going to be interesting.

2014-15 wont take magic.... Iggy can and will be retained.... Orpik will not be paid the same if retained...Paul Martin can be moved as well...

Depres and Harrington are the replacements for these guys... if it happens Malkin and Letang are still Pens.

Thanks for feedback. I haven't done a cap geek analysis or anything but was asking from a high level.

One poster seemed to imply that Da Man would pick Letang over Malkin. My post was explicit stating that I would do the opposite.

Sutter will get a fairly significant raise....he's an RFA. Malkin staying is almost a guaranteed. Letang is a priority, but they can't get too crazy with his contract. He also plays a tough brand of hockey for a smaller guy. He hasn't been the most durable of players. Got to be a little careful with giving him some kind of mega-deal. You are right.... The genius of Ray Shero is we have several nice defensive prospects that will be ready to go in 14 - 15.

By the way... I see Iggy accepting a reasonable deal for a couple of years. Players love playing here. Ownership treats them really well.

I like how you speak in the 3rd person haha yeah, but I guess you get the idea. The Penguins are very well managed as far as the cap construction goes if you know what I mean.

I'd keep Malkin over Letang only because of the amount of high end D prospects we have

I can see a $3.5-4M deal going his way...like Letang's 2nd deal.
