You can't bury contracts anymore and it may have changed in the new CBA but if somebody claims him, aren't they on the hook for half the salary? 20 million dollars for a guy who doesn't play for you anymore is steep.
- Two_For_Truth

No.

Re-entry waivers are gone (and the 50/50 split).

If a team claims him on waivers, he is gone.

With, of course, the rule about re-pegging the cap hit on cap hit avoided due to back diving contract, should he retire early.

Looks like it never ends for us.... Now all of a sudden our 2 games against the Rangers are big..... Plus NJ on Saturday and I believe one more with the NYI....

New CBA ....just regular waivers so if team X grabs him they have him and all his wonderful contractual attributes.

I wouldn't do it ...but hypothetically some team could.

It may be the final hope for Nuck fans because I don't see ownership cutting a 27 milly cheque.

- The Law

I don't see anyone taking him even for free... Unless Canucks eat some salary(how does that affect cap hit when retired)

With the acquisition of Hackett I can see Miller on the market.... maybe Smith.....
Islanders need a goalie but are they going to add Luongo's contract too Dipietro's

How pumped are you? I'm like at kid at Xmas right now at the thought of being in the building for Leafs-Habs playoffs. Go Bruins!!!

We need an Ottawa type invasion of the Bell Centre. A mass invasion to piss of all of the smurf supporters. Lets use our two games against the Smurfs to send a message. Philly ruffed them up a bit and they wilted. It looks like pure talent isn't going to win the east, this playoff season.

Still doubt Gillis does that given how he's always said that he can get value for Luongo. He'd sooner trade him for a 2nd round pick than waive him and hope somebody claims him.
- Two_For_Truth
He'll trade Schneider before he gives in on Luongo. It's all about self preservation here.

Is anybody offering a 2nd rounder? ...I'm not buying into his rhetoric about 4 teams being interested. A trade may have to involve a sweetner from Vancouver or a bad contract coming back. Waivers may be the best option for the Nucks'.

You really think it's a one way street? Luongo doesn't want to be there as much as they don't want him.

Last minute offer was Scrivens and two 2nd round picks and Nonis said no.

Thankfully.

woooo!!!!

Everything went as planned. Especially the part about Canucks fans being in denial about the Luongo situation, which continues.

Too bad they ended up with Kipper cause they didn't get
Luongo, eh? Or in your case, too bad they didn't.

If no-one wants him and his contract, there is no other options. They aren't buying him out and they're not tying up 5.5 million in cap room on a backup. Only thing they can do is trade Schneider and get a return on a 27 year old goalie.

Again, Luongo doesn't want to be there. Trading Schneider still doesn't change that. And there are still GMs that would take him for free, like Nonis, which is probably what he's waiting for.

The problem with this is that Luongo doesn't want to be there. He has to go, at this point. Which is too bad, because UG missed the point and wanted the Leafs to go after Kipper.

The only hope they have is if Luongo takes over the starter position again and stands on his head during the playoffs. Winning cures everything. But I don't expect that to happen.

No kidding.

6 months ago I wouldn't have minded that trade. But I have like what I've seen from those two for us to just go at it without the huge contract
