o'byrne doesn't take gardiners spot, he takes kostkas.

if anything, he opens the door for gardiner to play. gardiner and liles will most likely alternate on his other side until one slams down the spot going into the playoffs.

- joel878

And Kostka took Gardiners. Gardiner is in tough. And Liles has the most playoff experience of any Leaf defensemen.

No chance of a buy-out. Nobody is going to pay a player tens of millions of dollars to not play.

I'd rather the Sabres move Miller and acquire Luongo. Gillis is looking for an idiot to take him and Pegula is stupid enough to pay that bill.

- Two_For_Truth

He must be moved by next season.... If no one wants the contract they have no choice but to buyout or trade Schneider...

Bruins think that Jagr & Redden at their ages are difference makers?
Bruins would have been better off with some much needed grit & gotten Clowe. They have enough offense, they don't need Jagr.

- GCHonda

Their powerplay sucks and the natural talent, experience and chemistry Jagr has with Krejci is worth it. Redden is just experience and depth. Chara often double shifts so having a familiar partner on the bottom pairing is helpful. The Bruins being a legit contender need to make moves like that.

Chara and Redden back together. Pretty different routes though
- Canada Cup

As insanely unlikely as it is, it would be scary if Redden went back to playing like he once did simply by being reunited with Chara.

Jagr is still elite.

Redden is a hail Mary.

two different types of players, bud. kostka was a band-aid repair until we could land a defensive defenseman who would finally provide balance to the blueline. with o'byrne in, one of gardiner and liles plays with him. only player whos spot kostka can steal is gunnarsson's.

- joel878

I find it rather refreshing from the regular bs dribble you all manage to come up with in this thread...

They would trade Schneider a million times before they buy-out Luongo if it came down to that. There are a couple teams that would take Luongo if he was given away for nothing so Gillis isn't going to need to explore that option even if he was allowed to, which he wouldn't be. Just to make up the money lost to buy-out Luongo, they would have to play 20-30 home playoff games. Not worth it.

In other news... Luongo's contract makes him cry and the Flames expect to make the playoffs next year.

- honesthockey

Mabie Koztka too. Now 2 Leaf d men will be sitting every game. Gardiner will now have someone next to him to female dog with instead of just sitting their texting like he did the other night.

Enough even strength offense isn't the problem, it's the PP

Jagr helps with this

It's a sweet way of saying he can't produce offense
