Forsberg isn't going to be as good as some people said he was going to be but definitely not worth giving up for Erat. - Two_For_Truth
Why would a GM even take that risk? that was a dumb (frank)ing move even if Forsberg doesnt become anything more than a 3rd liner. Erat is a decent player and all but the Caps got (frank)ing fleeced there... |

Pretty sure you cannot do it, other than common sense, there is not factual proof that i have that a team cannot do it, just seems silly that a CBA would leave that kind of loop hole open... - Prolific_Scorer
then again doesn't it seem silly that they left a loophole for the ability to front load contracts like they did in the last CBA? |

Stajan wasn't on the ice more than anyone else and when he was they weren't on the verge of playoffs. - honesthockey
Bozak isn't the reason they're on the verge of the playoffs. He's a 3rd line center who is getting 1st line center ice time by default because he can win face-offs. |

The Washington GM doesn't care about the future...his job is clearly on the line. |

Going to have to disagree with you here. Even still, if he becomes a second line player it's still a bad trade in my eyes for the Caps. |

Yes it is, but (frank)ing a team totally before you get canned rarely bodes a GM well, ask JFJ... |

There is some truth to that. But they don't have the organizational depth to replace him from within, as you suggest. The role he plays at the moment is valuable to this team whether you like it or not.

For three years and they haven't done a thing about it! And now he's getting more ice then any other Leaf forward. What are we missing that Carlyle see's?

Oh, I'm not saying he made a good move at all. I was simply theorizing on why he made such a stupid trade. |

Some people were talking about Forsberg like his first name was Peter. That's the type of player I really doubt he becomes. But still too much to pay for Erat. Even Erat's cap hit sucks. |

Yes, they do. Kadri replaces Bozak, Grabovski replaces Kadri, McClement replaces Grabovski and Komarov can play the 4th line. Only thing they lose is more face-offs but in defensive situations, McClement can take them. |

Yes because Bozak and MacArthur is the difference between making the Cup finals and losing in the 1st round.
Might want to realize that Holzer still played top pairing minutes and O'Byrne doesn't. - Two_For_Truth
The argument I have about the Holzer angle is this: Holzer started the season, after playing a half a season in the AHL. Other teams and other players had to play catch up. It took about 20 games, but it showed the holes in Holzer's game, hence he was demoted. Bringing in another bottom pair defenceman, that can play a physical game, is important. When the playoffs start, we won't be able to dress both or either of MacLaren and Orr. We'll lose a measure of team toughness. By adding this defenceman into our lineup, it diminishes the need to dress all of the toughness on the forward lines. Players that take liberties on our goaltenders will think twice, before they crash our net. Hence the deal is good, since it equals what we got for Mike Brown. It's a wash. |
