Rentals make sense for teams that have a legit shot like the Penguins or the Bruins. Not the Leafs. If you consider Bozak and MacArthur "rentals" they're a waste of space. They have no playoff experience and they aren't worth keeping next year either. Kadri replaces Bozak and Frattin replaces MacArthur with ease. The only thing Kadri can't do is win face-offs like Bozak. That's it.

This is exactly right. But I'm not sure they're out of the woods in the Luongo situation. It could get to the point where the price is low enough to enter Nonis' range. Really hope it doesn't come to that.

They replaced the toughness and gained two 2nd round picks while doing it. That's genius. The Leafs have replacements for Bozak and MacArthur. Getting 2nd/3rd round picks for them in a deep draft would have been genius but instead it's a lost opportunity.
