Half of the second rounders in this strong draft won't even make the NHL UG.

The ones that do will end up in bottom 6 roles except for a handfull that MIGHT be diamonds in the rough.

- stevecarpetman

And Bozak and MacArthur are going to either get overpaid to stay or walk for nothing. Either you get a shot at something with a 2nd rounder in a deep draft or you get nothing. That's a tough one.

So apparently Liles and O'byrne were paired together and played well... hopefully that will happen again. I'm fine with the move if it means they waive Kostka because as bad as O'byrne is, Kostka is probably worse and at least O'byrne is big and tough

You mean O'Byrne isn't going to decapitate every guy he looks at?

Or they provide something of benefit to this team this season.

If every team that wasn't a lock to win the cup were to start selling off every pending UFA they have, the market for UFA rentals would collapse.

Rentals make sense for teams that have a legit shot like the Penguins or the Bruins. Not the Leafs. If you consider Bozak and MacArthur "rentals" they're a waste of space. They have no playoff experience and they aren't worth keeping next year either. Kadri replaces Bozak and Frattin replaces MacArthur with ease. The only thing Kadri can't do is win face-offs like Bozak. That's it.
- Two_For_Truth

You are considering them rentals by stating that they are UFA's and should be traded for picks.

What a beautiful deadline day. Nonis didn't do anything incredibly stupid.
- Zezel

This is exactly right. But I'm not sure they're out of the woods in the Luongo situation. It could get to the point where the price is low enough to enter Nonis' range. Really hope it doesn't come to that.

No, you considered them rentals when you said that other teams pay for them but the Leafs already have them. They should definitely be traded for picks because they're replaceable with guys they already have.

Not every team is smart enough to see where they really stand. You think San Jose regrets trading Clowe and then replacing him with Torres? Not for a second. They replaced the toughness and gained two 2nd round picks while doing it. That's genius. The Leafs have replacements for Bozak and MacArthur. Getting 2nd/3rd round picks for them in a deep draft would have been genius but instead it's a lost opportunity.

Can't say i feel sorry for Gillis, hes kind of a baby. I was fully expecting him to whine and cry about the Toronto media killing another deal today.
- Leafland

what I don't want to see happen is that Gillis somehow escapes the CAP hell he's created for himself by having the NHL agree to "nullify" Luongo's contract... just like the NHLPA came up with the accelerate buyout for Gomez and Redden earlier this year....

Gillis should have to wallow in his own poop... and not have the annoying Vancouver fan base get out of the bs they have been spreading for months...
