ya i don't get the sympathy everyone has for this guy. he made his bed. he played his way into the backup role. he's getting paid. i don't see why he gets such high praise for not holding the team hostage... - scotch_tape
He never played his way to the backup role, though.
He was inconsistent in one series, and the Canucks management decided to annoint Schnieder the new #1.
Bad move, imho. |

It sounded to me like Gillis didn't want to paint out Luongo to be a liar, so he stopped short of directly answering the question. - Atomic Wedgie
Not sure who to believe at this point. Like Hodgson 2.0 |

Komisarek would be in the line-up today if not for the fact that he is going to be bought out. - Leeman4Gilmour
If this was true, why is he playing for the Marlies? |

Seriously, what do you think they do moving forward?
1. Buy out
2. Trade him for a 1st and 2nd
3. Eat sh*t and bark at the moon - Flyfreaky

Can only speculate, either Gillis is asking for too much or he hasn't got any legitimate offers(meaning the only offers have been packages including a bad contract in return). Most Canucks fans think that during last summer was the best time to move him and this TDL was maybe his last chance to get anything of value. The longer he waits, the worse it is IMO. - Nucker101
So what's your gut saying? I think they'll need to buy him out cause no one is gonna take that contract and Gillis is too (frank)ing stupid to play the game and take back a bad contract along w/ a nice draft pick/prospect... |

I agree, that early benching made this much worse. Only way you do that is if you know that you're going to move Luongo before the next season for sure. Mind-boggling management and coaching during the last year or 2. |

Ouch. They'll try waivers first, and a team that doesn't care about the salary cap and needs home playoff dates to stay afloat will grab him.
Lu is heading south in the off-season, I'll bet. - Leeman4Gilmour
I'm not sure you can put him on waivers without him agreeing to it.
They couldn't with Komi... |

I'm not so sure that Aqullini will be cool with that big of a buyout. I'm guessing that Gillis gets a decent asset, but has to eat a bad contract in return at the draft. |

I'm not sure Franson belongs in the top 4 just yet.
I like that he's been playing well in his current role, but to see him as a 18-20 minute dman for a full 82 games might be too much.
His offensive side has picked up, but he's still way too soft for a guy that big. - Leeman4Gilmour
I find he's played a lot tougher this year...or at least the last 10-15 games - IMHO |

Anyone ever ask how or why Komi got a splinter of his own stick in his eye? ie. or the followup question, how close was Carlyle to him when this happened? |

Sometimes you just have to admit you aren't going to get what you want, and move on.
There was absolutely no excuse for not moving him before the season started - you had 4 months to get a deal (in principle) done.
Now, having said that, I'm sure Gillis will argue that it hasn't been a distraction, and the team has benefited from him (Schneider did poop the bed to start the season).
But you thought the offers were bad this year, just wait until the summer, when everyone knows the Canucks have no wiggle room. More than one offer is going to contain the clause "and I get to see your sister naked." |

Stubborn. Reminds me of Burke. Plus this team will be in cap hell next season and you can only buyout so many players so I'm not sure that he can even afford a bad contract that runs through next year in return. This isn't as straightforward as a lot of people think. |
