Solid pickup for the leafs. Ryan O'Byrne has some playoff experience, BIG GUY 6'5 235 pounds!! ohh and lastly he can fight

FWIW, Avs fans seem to hate him. My buddy is an Avs fan and sent me a text saying "thank god!" when it was announced on TSN.

So at this point we either develop our own or bust?
- honesthockey

Probably. I'm not sure I'd call the current situation a "bust" though. The Leafs are near the top of the league in offense. That's not good enough for now?

Almost as expensive?

Where does 1.6 mil UFA in the summer equal another 9 million in your world?

I wonder. you would think if both parties want out, you could void it. No idea if NHL has an out clause like that.
- Big_Lightnin

They do. It would be complicated with Luongo, though.

They would have to demote him, and he would have to allow it. And then he would have to refuse to report. The Canucks could then move to have his contract voided.

Not sure how that would affect cap, though.

Pretty much when they play the Predators and Oilers. Oh poop, you know my secret, I like two other hockey teams besides Toronto.
- mykokes

wasn't being a Richard I was honestly asking. I've only seen like 2 or 3 simple due to luck of the draw when Leafs aren't playing.

If you've watched a dozen games or so you're opinion has some merit. Often guys make sweeping statements like you just did without having seen a single game.

2nd last in the league says there's not a whole lot for the avs to like.

He's a great fit in Toronto.

at least we didnt trade for a D from a team that was looking to upgrade their D
- jribout

really? because the Leafs traded for a guy that the worst team in the league no longer wanted. is that so much better than plucking a plyer off the roster of the defending champs?

So gillis has talked to 6 teams about luongo.. And none of them have ever had a single concern with the contract.

How the (frank) does this goof have a job?

- joel878

If none of them had a concern with the contract, then he's an even bigger moron than I originally thought.

He should have traded him to any one of those 6 teams for whatever they were willing to offer. It beats losing him for nothing on waivers or eating that contract.

It's always been good enough for me. Offense has never been an issue. It's scoring 4 and having 5 scored against. I'm more interested in a different top 6.

We gave up a 4th rounder - if he sucks, he can go play on the Marlies.

How could anyone possibly be against this deal?

he is what he is. a bottom pairing NHL defensemen. when he gets ornery he can be effective (google his hit on Greg Campbell v Florida a few years back). unfortunately he's also one of the stupidest hockey players i've ever seen play.

Is this still allowable if the NHL gets any sense that they are colluding to do it?
