Solid pick-up for a 4th rounder, adds some more depth on the back-end just in case. Not as good as Robidas, but probably didn't cost as much either.

Not what I've heard. Spends zero time outside the rink with his teammates. Offers zero help to the youngsters.

Kostka out, Obyrne in. Hes the stay at home Dman the Leafs needed.
- Leafsfan9329

I'd much rather have Kostka out and Gardiner in to be honest... the Leafs don't need a stay at home 3rd pairing d-man. They need a top 4 to log big minutes, something O'Byrne never did and never will.

O'Byrne? Why? Oh well, only cost us a 4th.
- deerow84

Meh. Why not?

Jay McClement got a lot of the same reaction when we signed him, too. You need your role players.

Probably Liles and Gardiner will sub in and out for each other over the next few weeks.

Think its a great move.

We needed someone who could play with liles or gardiner, and help with the defensive shortcomings in that pairing.

If he can play responsible positionally, block shots.. Kill the off penalty, everything else we get us a bonus.

Just wonder how they fit him in. Kostka waived? Or the new komisarek serving popcorn in the presser?
