Still think the biggest news of the day is Mason to PHI for a 3rd.

How in the (frank) isn't it Mason and a 3rd to Philly for Leighton?

I'll have to have a drink on that.

And I guess Gaborik easily waiving for CBJ. If he is that disgruntled what's that locker room in New York going to be if they miss the playoffs or get spanked by Pit in round one?

Paajarvi can go. I'm talking about an untouchable list. I'm talking about packaging up good prospects for established players, not other prospects.
- Morris

I agree. If he is bringing you back a true #1 goalie fine, but not Bishop who has 30 or 40 NHl games under his belt.

That is where our opinion differs. I think the goal tending consistency is our largest gap. We don't have a top 30 goalie unless habby is having a good game.
- bsteinley

'Top 30' is a load of horsecrap. Tons of goalies fluctuate wildly in terms of their success year to year, week to week, game to game. There are many goalies better than Dubby. There are many more consistent.

But Dubby in terms of success is on par with a lot of the goalies in the league. I'd put Dubnyk on par with many so-called top 30 goalies in the league. Our situation isn't ideal, but neither is Toronto's, Winnipeg's, New York Islanders', Chicago's, Detroit's, St. Louis' and they all found their way into playoff contention

It's true though. Torts is only a good coach if the team is winning.

To add to this, I'd rather a guy like Dubnyk who is young but has very few mechanical problems in his game but needs to work on his mental game than a guy like Scrivens who seems like a cool cucumber but has poor rebound control or Jonathan Bernier who will have to rely on insane athleticism to compensate for his small frame. Not saying they won't.

Dubnyk's cross to bear is his tendency to let in a blooper. This isn't a question of their being a bevy of guys with no weaknesses while Dubnyk is chock full of them.

Steve Sullivan traded to NJ for a 7th.

Matthew Lombardi traded to ANA for Brandon MacMillan.

St Louis trades Wade Redden to Boston for a 2014 7th.

Ohhhh so THAT'S the kind of Dman Boston was looking for.

It's like they just made the deal to have a better shot at sucking and had to get a deal done.

With that being said sometimes getting actual prospects is better then getting that 1st rounder

- Lahey

Looks like they got both.

New reports that the deal is for Larsson, Hackett, 1st and 2nd

Washington has called a press conference...

The good thing is from a team standpoint nothing is changing for tonight and most likely tomorrow.

Maybe. They got Gaborik, but they gave up a real quality player in Brassard and some depth in Dorsett and Moore (made expendable by Murray).

At the end of today we are not much better- yet not worse... I guess time will tell if this was the best stance

I am surprised by their push to win so quickly- I guess they did not want to be stereotyped with the oil... I mean seriously everyone expected them to get Jones this year- instead we have adatar's (frank)ing BRUTAL AVALANCHE taking jones... which is fitting as those (frank)s chirpped us all season yet they will get another top 3 pick likely this year

We were runner up. Odds are they wanted PRV+. I'm not doing that. Bishop has proven nothing. Lehner put up signicifcantly better numbers then him. Something tells me the team made Bishop.

They've been trying to move Brassard since last year some time.

This is simply a new GM getting players he wants and getting rid of guys he doesn't need.

^This. Playoffs would be gravy this year. I expect a 9-12 finish for the Oil. Next year though, barring any huge injury problems, the Oil should be in the thick of the fight, though with the new alignment, who knows how that'll go.

So do we trade Gagner, Brown and Klefbom/Marincin for Gaborik to do this?
