Garrett Klotz was a 3rd round pick. Matt Read was a FA signing. Just because a player was drafted/undrafted has no effect on...what are you trying to say again?

I think he was making a funny. Lower your weapons, I mean you no harm.

At least we didn't give anything up for Rosehill.
- BulliesPhan87

No arguments there. Harry Z is minor league fodder.

On Rosehill, Panaccio noted something on Twitter that makes a lot of sense. I thought it was a dumb trade but he pointed out the Flyers do not want Voracek playing enforcer anymore. Funny when you think about it. All the rough stuff seems to be falling to Simmonds and Voracek lately. Not the way you would like to see it.
- spatso

If the Flyers have Rosehill on Sunday night, does Voracek still fight Olesky?

Yes. Because Rosehill would have been on the bench. It's not as if Rosehill will suddenly be on Giroux's left wing.

I like Vanek, but I wish I was hearing more about defense right now.

yandle was briefly mentioned in the article

I still can't believe Briere sustained a serious concussion at practice right before the trade deadline.
- Feanor

Saves him from having to tell the team no to waiving his NMC.
I expect him back in the line-up soon after the trade deadline ends... Unless he's gonna try and not get bought out over the summer. But I bet he's healthy before the end of the season for the extra cash gets bought out then signs someplace else.

Philly's been kicking plenty of tires, including Buffalo's on Vanek. We'll see if anything actually materializes... http://bit.ly/10vyE1H

I get the sense that even if Holmer isn't buying for a cup run, he is buying for next season. Expensive time for window shopping. If he can pull of another Zhitnik for Coburn I'll be fine with his work.

agreed ... and I'm praying it's not Simmonds that's traded, though he would logically seem to have a lot of value.

- FlyerGuy

If we could get a line 1 defenseman... Sorry to say, I trade Simmonds.

I am wondering who we'd trade for Clowe? I don't buy the Coots for Clowe, rumors.

Rosters expand tomorrow and he's gone at the end of the year. There's virtually no waste, imo.
- bradleyc4

exactly. theres absolutely no reason people should still be talking about this trade. who cares. move on asshats (not you bradleyc4).

I think Vanek would pot 40+ playing with Giroux. The focus has to be on defense, although the lack of scoring this year is somewhat alarming.

I honestly know Coots is as good as gone whether its by tomorrow or over the summer its just about what comes our way
- nonpoint22

Lets say Coots is definately gone. Lets hear what we all would find an acceptable return (names please).

Exactly. Say Rosehill is on the team on Sunday night. He's not going to be out on a line with Giroux. So Voracek is still going to do what he did. He's not sitting there going...Hmmm, well we got Rosehill...

Rinaldo is more of a deterrent. All you do is make it clear that if Giroux gets unfairly handled, that the other team's star player will be getting a visit from Rinaldo. That's more effective than Rosehill banging his knuckles off the other team's goon's head.

- Jsaquella

Exactly. I know I've said it before, but Berube once deterred another team's goon running at Flyers not by jumping on the ice, hitting the guy a few times and then taking a 5-minute breather. He went to the other team's star player and explained that, if it didn't stop, Berube was going to go after the star player. So essentially, had the Flyers wanted to do something about Washington possibly running Giroux, they could have just threatened to start running Backstrom.

Nor do I. If the Flyers are trading for Clowe, I expect a second trade or the deal to include more than just Clowe.

I doubt that they're even considering Couturier for Clowe straight up.

I hate it when GMs make reactionary roster moves.
If G doesn't get smacked and Jake fights, Rosehill likely doesnt happen.
Reactionary moves make me believe there isn't a real plan.

There's absolutely a reason to still be talking about it. It's a trade that wasted an asset to fill a non existent hole. Would have rather seen them get a late round pick. Or call up Derek Mathers.

It's not that they traded Zolnierczyk. It's that they're wasting a roster spot and contract slot on a guy that can not play hockey. If Voracek didn't get into that fight, Jay Rosehill is in Anaheim still.

The best part is, Rosehill won't even stop the kind of play that happened to Giroux. Even if he's on the ice at the time, which he won't be.

- Jsaquella

The bigger problem I have is that they waived a much better player, who is also a fighter in Sestiov

Maybe it was a move for Z's benefit. We've got a wealth of players better than him at forward, in Anaheim maybe he'll find a niche? Anyways, lovely weather out there, and we get a nominal benefit of $50k in cap space.

Harry Z's an asset, indeed.
