For the Seth Jones fans he had 2 goals in the round 1 series clinching game for Portland.

which doesnt make much sense. if LA asked philly for a 4th, why would you settle for the habs 5th and not philly's 5th?

I would offer a 2nd and maybe a conditional for McBain and see what Streit would cost.

Kimmo Coburn
Streit Schenn
McBain Grossmann

- Deasr1

Word is that Streit is staying in NY. And I wouldn't trade for him, as he's a pending UFA. And really, I wouldn't be interested in a long term deal with Streit.

Can't count it out, but yes the odds aren't likely.

Streit if he goes UFA will want 3-4 years in his next deal. Could be a fit here.
McBain is very interesting but likely will cost more then a second rounder.
Why is a team thin on D like Carolina trading a young guy like him anyway?

- Marc D

brett bellmore, a call-up from charlotte has essentially taken over his spot in the D rotation, i think mueller likes him and sanguinetti better than mcbain. he has somehow worked himself into the dog house and has had trouble getting out all year. i think he has upside but it will take time, he is worth a shot but i think the canes want a roster forward and not a draft pick but things could change by tomorrow.

But did he, though?

He threw tons of money (some people say actually the largest dollar amounts) at both Parise and Suter, and went ballz to the wall for Weber. We've read it on here before- hell....I've said it before- Homer can't make players decide to play for Philly. He did all he could to get Suter and Parise, and they said no. That isn't on him. Same, but different, with Weber. Did he tell Poille to match....??

Moreover, what else could he have done? Trade Voracek? Brayden Schenn? Cooter? I read it on here, just a few pages ago: sometimes the best trade you make is the one you don't make at all. Besides, the JVR/Schenn swap is looking pretty nice....

EDIT: The bottom line is that the team didn't get better. People that say that are right. But it isn't because Homer sat on his ass and twiddled his thumbs. Is it partially Homer's fault with the performance of this team? Certainly it's a possibility. But the blame has to be placed on the underachieving players and the coach to some extent as well. He swung and missed, but he swung....what else can we ask from him?

- Giroux_Is_God

Points well taken. It wasn't for a lack of effort. But focusing on Suter and Parise was by in large a waste of time. They weren't coming here regardless of what contracts were offered. And with the benefit of hindsight you can say the calculated risk signing Weber to an offer sheet was a mistake. If the Flyers desperately wanted Weber they could have had him by offering Nashville a fair trade package.

As nervous as we all tend to get about the Flyers' D, I can't imagine how bad they'd be without LSchenn.

rentals often don't work out for gms... if clowe re-signs long term, then it might be a solid move. but i dunno, seems like a lot for what could wind up being a rental 3rd line winger

and i hear ya on kubina, but i'm not gonna lie, i liked it at the time. seemed like a good fit, he just broke down (weird because it seems like we never have to hear about flyers with injury problems)

- FlyerMike18

Agree with you. The only way rentals are a good idea is if a team is lacking that final piece and are serious Cup contenders.

The zero goals for Clowe is an anomaly. In my opinion it's a very good deal for the Rangers. They got a tough gritty veteran forward. Who despite his struggles this year, can score. And they got him cheap.
- MJL

I wouldnt call that cheap. Clowe is still a UFA to be. He likely won't be willing to take less money than he's making now even with the goalless season. We'll see if he's a fit heard he's fighting a bum shoulder

You think they could've had him by offering a fair trade package. The problem you have sometimes when you have two GM's trying to work out a fair trade package. Is that one GM's definition of a fair trade package is different from the others. And I believe that the Flyers tried for a while to work out a deal, but couldn't agree on one. Hence they went the OS route.

I think it's cheap. I expect them to re-sign him. If they don't, and the Rangers don't make a run. And he walks. Well then that's the risk you take. I think he's the perfect kind of player for them. I've read a lot about Clowe. Haven't seen anything about a bad shoulder.
