Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports reports that the Rangers are believed to be big Curtis Glencross (Flames) fans.

The 30-year old Glencross has 14g, 8a this season and is on the books for $2.55 million per till 2015.

The Rangers have signed a free agent OHL and college defensemen in the last week. If they really like Glencross, you would have to wonder whether the last weeks signings were a predicate to sending McIlrath to Calgary for him.

Reasonable salary for a player than has scored 30 goals before and currently having a nice season.

I'd be ok with that.

Maybe they also take back Boyle, pipe dream. But is still makes

well, lets just realize that Brad Richards will not be traded anywhere. He has a No Movement Clause, and it's not even in the realm of possibility that Dallas would want to acquire him back while they are in total sell mode.

One can hope, though...

As far as the ice time for the kids, Torts has always, always shortened his bench in tight games if he doesn't trust certain players to perform in crucial situations. He understands the big picture but put him within a game and suddenly he is going to do everything possible to win that game. It shouldn't be a surprise that he isn't putting Kreider and Miller out late in tight games. That's been Torts' MO from the beginning and it shouldn't reflect on the kids or how Torts might view them in the big picture. They'll earn his trust eventually assuming he's around long enough.

We forget that Boyle EARNED (yes, I said earned) Torts' trust in years past playing a solid defensive game, killing penalties, etc. I don't think even Torts expects another 20-goal season but Boyle can still get you 12 - 15 in a full season. Hell, he pretty much did that and most of us thought he sucked last year.

Did anyone know that Boyle is in the top-10 in faceoff winning %? I didn't until this morning. He doesn't score enough or use his body enough to perhaps get the ice time he does some games but he has earned the coach's trust with his responsible play over the last 2+ seasons.

The bottom line is I can't blame Torts that much for it. Yes, I want to see the kids and I think that while they've made some mistakes they have been okay with a smattering of excellent other times. But with Torts facing the pressure to win I can understand why he would roll the guys who have done it for him in the past; guys like Boyle, Richie, Cally, etc. I assure you if he played Miller and Kreider and one of them was on the ice when a critical goal was scored against Torts would be lambasted by the fans so he's pretty much in a lose-lose situation. I mean seriously, if it was you in that job facing the pressure to win like he is, would you play guys that have performed on the big stage and had success (i.e. Richie, Boyle, Cally, Step now) or take a chance on unproven kids? I think that is a pretty obvious answer whether we agree with his evaluations of a guy like Boyle or not.

I agree with this Boyle has earned his trust and if a coach doesn't trust his player in this case Kreider then he should not play him that is his right as the coach. But with every game being so important I do not see how Kreider get s'more playing time so just send him down for the rest of the season bring back newbury let him play on the 4th line. Makes more sense.

Ps I do not think that torts is ruining Kreider just would help his development more if he played more minutes in ahl

I don't know whether Calgary had interest in McIlrath, but if I were him, and I have seen what the Rangers have done in the last week, I wouldn't be too comfortable. It seems like they are building depth to trade a young defensive prospect for someone they are targeting.

Oh did I laugh when Richards missed that empty net at the end of the game. Guy couldn't hit a body of water if he was standing on the shore line.

I think there is a deal to be made with a Boyle and McIlrath package for Glencross, I definitely do.

They need a sniper on the wing bad. They play Filpulla (a UFA after this year) out of position too much, and they were reportedly in on Jagr, so I think they would be very interested in Gaborik. They can start by offering Filpulla, their 1st and a sandpaper guy for Gaborik. I also like your Sproul prospect suggestion a couple of weeks ago. I think that kid can play.

another thing, with Fasth, Lindberg, some other kids on the horizon, are some other young guys trade bait? like, gulp, Kreider?

Was just watching torts' presser from last night. He was saying they been telling the guys to get shots towards the net. We don't have bombs, but if we can get shots through to the net offense will go up he said. That's what happen on Stepans 2nd goal, the go ahead goal.

He's Teaching offense, woot!

Call up Florida and see if they are stupid enough to have soured a little on Erik Gudbranson, your coveted right handed shot, Jimbo. Then move Kreider and McIlrath to Florida for Gudbranson and Vince Trocheck (my favorite OHL player).

Then we're both happy.

I actually don't want Filppula. Not that I think he's bad or not worth the trade. I just want Gabby's cap hit of the books. Wings wouldn't even have to offer a 1st round pick. That's how much I've back off of Gaborik. If they offered Sproul, Helm or Abdelkader and 2nd, I would more than happy with that.

To the wrong guys. Stepan has had man goals during career from either side of the net.

I think Fast is only going to practice with the team and will probably not dress for a game at all. I think he needs to report to WJC in a few weeks.

I have seen him a half dozen times this year, and he also passes the puck like Derek Stepan. I think he is an extremely underrated player, and it is not surprise to me that he won the OHL scoring title this year. Seeing him this Friday night again against Owen Sound in the second round of the OHL playoffs. I would absolutely love to have him, and Florida has a bit of a glut at center.
