You can look at one year of tons of good NHL players and if that's all you look at you would say he sucks. But then you see he bounces back the next year. Just because he has 0 goals this year does not mean he sucks. He's having a bad year. His track record and age suggest he can still be a solid NHL player and he adds toughness. I don't know how many times I've read complaints from people saying the Rangers have no heart because one of their guys gets roughed up and no one responds. This guy will respond.

Ok let me clarify, Ryan Clowe sucks THIS year. But he is a rental, I must base my opinion of what he is going to give me between now and June only as we traded for a 2013 Ryan Clowe only as we are renting him. And 2013 Ryan Clowe is not worth what we gave him.

And Pete, yes I would hope my 2nd round picks turned into Ryan Clowe. But I would not trade that for potentially 12 games of this slumping year of 2013 Ryan Clowe. He is awful this year and we only have him for this year. Even if we resign him (god I hope not) we could gotten him free in the summer so I don't count that aspect of it.

The Rangers need this type of player, and they went out and got it. Obviously, it may have been better just to re-sign Prust in the first place, but that ship has sailed.
- Pete V

Clowe has been that type of physical player but also adds 20 goals a year too. Of course if he re-signs I'll be curious to see what that price tag is too.

And we suck down the middle after Stepan. I woulda rather had Roy for less assets then we gave up for Clowe to the Stars.

Of course, however my point is his history suggests he is more likely to produce for us as he has in years past rather than as he has this year. We don't know for sure what he's going to give us. Obviously the Rangers and several other clubs felt that Clowe was going to be a valuable contributor or else he wouldn't have been in such high demand.

Kyprios is reporting that they already have the outline of a deal, so he is probably going to be a Ranger past this year. Of course, that raises other questions, like how much is he signing for, and where to they fit his contract into the mix, with only about $11 million supposed available before this deal. It is going to be an interesting summer.

It is also going to be interesting to see what the Ranger do tomorrow, if anything.

I think one of the big chips in him waiving his no trade clause was agreeing to signing an extension with the team he was going to. I think unless he turns into John Scott, there is a good chance he does resign. You have a good point though, his lack of offense this year could really hurt his price tag. Will be interesting to see.

Roy is like zuccarella. We need size in here. Clowe makes them tougher to play against

Yea it will ease his loss hopefully.

Is trade official yet and is he playing tomorrow?

- Slimtj100

Yes, the trade call already happened. I would think he'll be in the lineup tomorrow.

Lets say its cheap. Exactly what prust got. What would you Rather have?

Prust two seconds and a 3rd or Ryan Clowe. I'll take the former.

Supposedly the framework of a deal is already in place to resign him. I hope they do resign him. I believe you made the reference earlier about him basically being a cheaper priced salary Dubinsky. I think that's a good reference and even though he hasn't scored this year his history shows he can have some nice point totals while also being a good fighter and bring some energy like a Prust. I'm excited to see him play tomorrow night. I hope he blasts someone and fights first shift to get the place goin.

Howdy all, holiday just ended and saw the deal. Personally, and will get to this tomorrow, I don't like it, First, would have preferred Roy, Second, why I like Clowe, you now have dealt your 1,2 and 3 this year, which is crazy. Clowe fits them style-wise and is a nice addition, but to now have dealt picks in the first three rounds seems a bit short-sighted.

Thanks to Brandon and Ed for filling in for me.

Prust, but they franked that up, so what can you do? Also, I don't think you are going to be happy with what Clowe gets. I think he'll get way more than what Prust got.

Your concerns are valid, and I certaintly don't mean to diminish them. But, they can use a bit of a wrecking ball in this lineup, because they have been somewhat soft this year. And, they went out and got one. But, you are right. In retrospect, they should have just kept Prust.

My point is more, go trade for a Brandon Prust player if thats what you want. Not overpaying for past stats.

I believe the Rangers still have their own 3rd this year, they traded Florida's. This is a risky move no doubt, but for a team with little to no pulse most nights like the Rangers, this is a piece they needed

Clowe might not be setting the world on fire this season but he has scored 20+ goals several times in his career. Prust couldn't score 20 in three seasons. He is more than a plugger, he can produce, despite this year's goose egg.

I was going to say the same thing earlier, but omitted that. Clowe can score 20. Prust can't do that. Sure, in retrospect, just signed Prust, keep the picks and get your scoring from elsewhere, but Clowe can score.

I also think it is funny that with all the scouting the Sharks did of the Rangers, all they traded for was a bunch of picks.

Maybe if it ends, the pens take their foot off the pedal a bit to. Could play well for the Rangers
