You are most likely correct. But I like seeing that management is beginning to attempt to fix, all be it a little timidly, the issue of size with the roster
- theireland

But they cant go too far with it. They tried that too years ago. Which is how we got Plante. They thought he would continue to develop into a big shut down guy.

Drafting Moroz and Zharkov and Pitlick was another indicator.

Also drafted at a time when the Hatcher type dman was still kind of popular. Changed since then with the new NHL rules. These big plodding beasts are defenseless when they cant clutch and grab.

Why does Boston do this though? Nothing in that package replaces what Looch does.
- sanfordnson

yea, who would want a potential 50 goal scorer? those are so easy to come by

i'd be long retired when that happens.
- deks1

Plante is a bust. More than enough time has elapsed to determine that.

That offer would get you laughed at. Remember the Flames were talking Iggy for Bernier?

Come on. Bernier is not worth what the Kings are asking. But he's not going to be gotten for our scraps either.

- Iggysbff

Oh and I wasn't the one that said we should get him. Someone else pointed him out. I would only take him if he could be had for what he is actually worth. He is not a top 25 goalie. LA can keep him at the price they want. I was just saying his stats make you wonder a little.

Personally my vote is for Lou. Yep, I said it. Secure a top 5 goalie long term and we have gone to a team on its way to a permanent contending team every year. I would give up a fair amount for him as well. I know giving talent to Van is not ideal but with our top line and Lou in net, they can try to beat us.

You can't pick a specific subset of 11 games. I picked the games LA played Bernier in, that was not of my doing. Maybe Dubnyk is the better goalie (I doubt it) but he could be. I am just saying that Bernier's numbers are impressive compared to Quicks, whose numbers are really the only goalie you can compare them to since they are on the same team.
- bsteinley

I picked the last 11 games that Dubnyk played in and didn't embellish anything.

What do you want me to do, pick Dubby's worst games? The fact that I could provide 6 or 7 "specific subsets" to Bernier's 1 should tell you that for better or for worse, Dubnyk is a known commodity, and Bernier is a prospect that gets treated like he's Pekka Rinne.

Very true. They certainly haven't had much luck in the dept of developing a big nasty. I'm glad they keep trying though.

I remember hearing the same thing about Petry, whos arguably our best dman now. Like I said before, you cant jump to early conclusions about later picks. I also remember having a convo with someone convinced that Plante was the next Regehr.
- sanfordnson

I can see that. Plante and Regehr both had a lot of hype but turned out to suck. So that guy was right.

Might have said that about Riley Nash too, but he's still plugging away.

I was responding to the suggestion of Hesmky, Jones, a 2013 2nd and a 2014 1st for him. and Belanger to "sweeten the deal".

Check what youre quoting more carefully.

?

Regehr was a beast with Calgary and terrorized the NW for years. Plante will be in the ECHL before too long. This makes no sense at all.

I want the Oilers to keep their 1st this year and draft in the top 15 at least, just to see what big, mean player they take

True, but I never claimed Riley Nasb was a bust. He just didnt have a place here anymore. Plante (frank)ing sucks and Ive said so for the last 3 years. With Gernat, Musil and Klefbom needing time in the A his Oilers days are done.

Fair enough. It'll actually be interesting to see whether Marincin is better than Nash, but he -- give or take a few years -- has become our 2007 21st overall asset.

Forward. Someone for the third line with second line potential should do nicely

Moroz, Zharkov, Pitlick, Hamilton, Khaira, Martindale, Kessy, Hartikainen, Ewanyk, Mccaron. Most of those guys will be AHLers, but our pipeline is now filled with nothing but big crash and bang forwards.

If a couple of them pan out as bottom 6ers, this might be a brilliant way to keep physicality in our lineup for league minimum once we've got the core locked into huge contracts.

59 career games. I dont think an 11 game sample size this year is enough to go by.
