Philly is just as bad as we are its a top 10 pick - Stripes77
I realize they are at the moment but if they got Vanek I think he would help them get some more wins and possibly sneak into the playoffs. |

As I stated before in this site, this is most critical time in Sabres recent history. Take advantage of our poor season and move on. This season will have a question mark on it anyway with a shortened season. Look at the Habs last year - they were terrible and earned themselves a top 5 pick I believe. They caught some breaks this year and they are at the top of the division. They didn't lose their entire core but made a strategy move at GM and Coach. They got solid play in net and the team gained a lot of confidence.
The Sabres need to understand that teams change from year to year and the curve is not as great as it was. Look at the assets that do not fit and leverage for the future. Hockey is a team and system game. Look at the Rangers - they have a ton of talents but haven't figured out the team aspect of their game.
Look at losing the fat on this team - trade for value and draft picks and focus on the future. A top 4 or 5 pick in the draft is a game changer pick in my eyes. |

I consider him underactive because while he makes moves, it's just tinkering around the core. And the core is fatally flawed and has been for ayears. Most GM's would realize that within a season, and either make the moves or be fired.
I always recall Philly's Holmgrem being interviewed after trading Richards and Carter and shaking up what was decent Flyers team (they beat the Sabres in the playoffs that year). When asked if the team was better, he replied "I don't know if we'll be better, but we will be different."
Regardless, of it's turned out for him, I like that deciseveness. I don't think Darcy has the stones to admit that the core he assembled is flawed and not good enough. Hope I am wrong - he did trade Roy, right? - jacquescloutier
He did, and he's apparently asked Pommer for his list, so I'd say it's happening. Gotta make sure you get a good return for these guys, though, you can't just give them away, and in any negotiation, any teams inquiring about these guys are going to try and get them as cheap as possible. It takes time to find the right deal, and these guys have a lot of value. |

The Oilers are already on year 5, and again with the future predicting, you should really jump on that. People have been saying 'with this top pick in the draft the Oilers will be a different team this year' for the last three years. They're still a fringe team, and now those young guys are about to run out their ELCs. - BuffaJoe
For every Edmonton Oilers unsuccessful rebuild, there are the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Chicago Blackhawks. Chances are if we take the 4 1sts, we are a contender right now. They tried to put this team on Vanek and Pominville's shoulders and failed.
Edit: As far as their ELC's, Hall and Eberle are already signed long term to 6 Mil per season, which in 3 years could be a huge bargain |

There are rarely sure shot players like Crosby, Malkin, and Kane. Most years you're lucky to get an Eberle, Hall, or RNH, who, while good, don't make a contending team on their own. Pens were lucky to get a player who puts up 1.5 ppg. Their GMs deserve a lot of credit, but the reality is that PIT and CHI are the exception to the rule. MOST teams do not turn it around like they do. For every CHI and PIT, there is a SJ, DAL, PHI, BUF, EDM, CGY, etc. etc. etc. still trying to make it happen. |

Try to name a team that has won a stanley cup without having a top 5 pick in the NHL draft on their roster in the last 10 years. You can't. You need top end talent. You can't pick between 10-25 every year and expect to win a cup. The Red Wings are the exception to the rule, even they have had top 5 draft picks on their roster |

Its not an "unsuccessful" rebuild. As I said before, Quebec was the other team in NHL that drafted first overall 3 years in a row. 5 years after their last pick (which wouldve been Yakupov, which was last year), they won a cup. Oilers are done rebuilding. They are in year 1 of the turnaround. Hell, they might make the playoffs this year. Wont be a threat, but they might make it.
They only lack a goaltender. |

I agree..... I thought it was SabresCup2012 for a long time but the way that SFO gets bitter and lashes out at people isn't like him.... and come to think of it.. it is more like Irish. |
