Fourth Period is a lot more reputable than say SFO or HI...
I am sure teams have made calls...
I would take Hartnell and Read for Vanek. - JVince11

Well, we were talking about the Oilers picks, hence me referencing the Oilers rebuild. Both Chicago and Pit have been lucky to get absolute studs in the draft, but yes, we should all be jealous of their GMs' team building skillz. - BuffaJoe
The "Vanek Picks" are just like the Kessel trade if that player improves them to make the playoffs those picks are as valueable |

So, how about that Mogilny to Vancouver trade?
Just kidding... how about we talk about the Kings trade. And by Kings trade, I mean Huddy, Stauber and Zhitnik for Boucher, Fuhr and Tsygurov. |

They are going to build around Vanek IMO. I'd like to see Pominville get a return of a 1st and a high value prospect (preferably a center) to compete with Hodgson and Grigo for the top line center. There are so many possibilities over the next few months it's just a matter of Regier pulling it off. - buffalokb

Except that none of the Vanek Picks players have made the Oil a playoff team. Even all four picks combined haven't. They're still out of the picture. And if they did sneak into 8th, they still don't have enough to make a serious run. |

Vanek is our only top line player on the team. Would rather not trade him for a 2nd liner and a pick thats probably going to be outside the top 10. - Rally_Shots

I'm not patting him on the back for making those trades, but they needed to be made, and I'm glad they were. Again, I'm not going down the slippery slope of defending Darcy, he has plenty of blunders against him. He hasn't 'done nothing' the last few years though, I'm not sure why people still consider him an underactive GM. - BuffaJoe
I consider him underactive because while he makes moves, it's just tinkering around the core. And the core is fatally flawed and has been for ayears. Most GM's would realize that within a season, and either make the moves or be fired.
I always recall Philly's Holmgrem being interviewed after trading Richards and Carter and shaking up what was decent Flyers team (they beat the Sabres in the playoffs that year). When asked if the team was better, he replied "I don't know if we'll be better, but we will be different."
Regardless, of it's turned out for him, I like that deciseveness. I don't think Darcy has the stones to admit that the core he assembled is flawed and not good enough. Hope I am wrong - he did trade Roy, right? |
