He had a couple of bad starts last year with a team playing like crap in front of him; Schneider came in and didn't fare much better against the eventual cup champs and an outstanding run by Quick. It also wasn't too long ago he took them to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals... Luongo's the better goalie, Gillis' asking price and his contract are the problem. - gravyface

Kipper is the right kind of tender to back up Reimer. There's just no way kipper is gonna come to Toronto to back up for half a season. - Trevrrrgavo

Talking to his agent doesn't necessarily have anything to do with negotiating an extension. They have to convince him to just show up. - Jeffmt
TSN is saying they are talking about a contract extension |

Thanks for making my point. The leafs want a veteran tender most likely a back up. Which is not what kipper is. It's stupid we're even talking about this trade |

The leafs trade a package based around Grabovski to Vancouver and eat 50% of his salary for the entire 4 years remaining after this one. Toronto Gets Luongo and Vancouver eats 25% of his contract for the entirety of the deal.
For the first 4 years the Leafs pay 2.75 million of Grabovski's contract and just under 4 for Luongo. Essentially making Luongo a 6.75 cap hit for the first 4 years. However in the later years once the Grabovski contract is up Luongo's cap hit would remain just under 4 million.
In This Scenario Vancouver get's Grabovski at a hair over 4 million which is right around where he should be. Plus maybe Colborne, or Percy or Finn or whatever, the point is Van get's useful players and the cap hit for 4 years is reasonable. After that you would take on a 1.333 million hit for the 5 years left on Luongos contract.

Not disputing that, but seriously: contracts aside, it's game 1 of the playoffs: Reimer or Luongo, who would you choose? Should be pretty obvious. - gravyface
No one would dispute that. His contract on the other hand is untradeable. |

How does eating 25% of Luongo's contract result in a 1.333M hit for the last 5 years of his contract? |

I almost wonder with the Preds being broke what it wouldn't take to pry Rinne out of Nashville. Reimer or Scrivens, Colborne, Finn + Percy(or insert other 2 d prospects here), and a pick. Something Nashville couldn't refuse and would be profusely beneficial for Toronto.... |
