If it's between Luongo and Kiprusoff I'd take Kipper in a heartbeat, if only for the contract situation.

I wonder though if this is a tactic to put some pressure on Vancouver who they're apparently talking with again. If I'm Gillis and I hear this, I'm breathing into a paper bag right now.

That's what I'm thinking: Toronto uses Dreger and the boys as a leak to drive agendas; there's nothing those guys report that the Leafs don't want them to report.

Ya he's not coming to the Leafs to backup Reimer..
- Fruitcakenipple

My question is, would Calgary want Reimer or Scrivens in the deal for Kipper? with Leafs management now talking to Kippers reps, you'd think they were providing details on what they have in mind for him.

This season on a Leafs team driving for the playoffs, next season more of the same, and maybe a short contract extension if he still shows signs of being a solid goaltender?

He would most likely be your starter in the playoffs, he has tons of experience.
- Symba007

They have to find out what they have in Reimer though. Even with Kipper, Reimer starts in the playoffs. If he crashes and burns then they've got another option who's actually seen the post season.

Reimer and Kiprusoff is a nice tandem, Reimer would learn a lot from him. The question is the assets that it will take.
- ejeezy

it will only take a 3rd and "B" level prospect (D'amigo, Ashton etc)

Again, why would the Leafs downgrade their goaltending by acquiring Luongo or Kipper?

Unless they prefer a solid veteran backup and don't care about cap hits it makes no sense.

- Nucker101

The salary is the problem for Luongo. Luo is still an elite goaltender and yes better than Reimer. That is why Nonis is trying to acquire a goalie.

There's zero chance they include Reimer in that trade and close to zero that they would include Scrivens. If they're at the stage where they're already talking to Kiprusoff's agent, that likely means they've already worked out the compensation.

Probably not. But I know 100% that they're not going to invest all the time they have into Reimer, and then give up when they get a golden opportunity to see what he's got.

Luongo is not better than Reimer, I'd say they're in the same tier. So why would Nonis pay for a more expensive and older guy if he's barely an upgrade at all?

Elite is probably a bit of an exaggeration. His numbers this year are just good.

Agreed, a deal in principle has been agreed to, Leafs probably want to know if Kipper wants to join them and if he would be open to an extension.

Maybe Scrivens, because he's got another year before he's UFA, but only if Calgary's taking salary back (Komi), especially if Kipper's pushing for a contract as the only way he'll move. If that's the case, I say let him retire in Calgary.

I would rather the Leafs pick up Kipper over Luongo. Better Cap hit, and better term.

If I had a choice between getting kicked in the balls for a year or 8 years, I'd trade for the crappy Finnish goalie too

It could be an even split situation. And I think Kipper has just been out of it this year. Let's face it, bad team with no likelihood of playoffs. Family problems and coming into a season halfway through because of the lockout has a lot to do with it.

If he comes to Toronto, he could be lighting it up in the playoffs with renewed vigour. And Reimer gets probably the best mentor in the league sans Brodeur. If the price is right, and the Leafs management could convince him to accept, why not? Give them some cheap assets or maybe pry another player like Backlund away then sure.

I can't believe I'm defending a Canuck/Luongo here, but I would still put Luongo in over Reimer any day of the week.

Calgary are not giving up young assets/players without more going the other way.

You're aware of the concept of aging correct? He would be coming here as a back-up.

If Kipper was such a good mentor wouldn't the flames have a goalie coming up in the ranks ready to play??
