Looks like Higgins has resigned with the Canucks. 4 years @ 2.5 million per year. Limited NTC.

Good deal

Don't think they can do both. Per Gillis, we're lacking versatility.

Oh yeah - wtf happened to the Sedins? They still play for this team right?

Another board; from someone who has previously been confirmed as the brother of Higgins. The contract is supposedly going to be signed tomorrow.

I guess we will see, but he has been credible in the past on a few different things with the Canucks.

I hope he's right, 2.5 million per year would be great for Higgins

Just saw it on HF boards as well. 2.5 per, 4 years with a NTC. I wouldn't call it a discount, but it's not bad either. He's a very good 3LW IMO. Not a big fan of yet another NTC, Gillis is really handcuffing himself with all of them.

He's a versatile player of mid-tier benefit. Re-signing him now given how this team is performing would be arguably the most un-exciting move Gillis could make this TDL.

EDIT: Giving Higgins a 4 yr deal with a NTC is not a good move IMO.

Gillis better make 2 significant moves or I'm done with this team until AV is fired.

I just don't see many better alternatives out there around that price point. We all know what Higgins brings; he's a very solid two-way player.

Considering how the UFA period usually goes, 2.5 million per will probably buy you a 4th line grinder during the summer

Sad, but true.

Apparently a limited NTC, probably one where he gives a list of a few teams that he wont go to like Pominville.

I wouldn't risk it.. I like Higgins but he is streaky.. and who knows what the future will hold.. NTC are usually reserved for core players.. who have earned the right to have a say in their future destination. Not quite sure I put Higgins in that category...

We should just trade him for Pominville.

I'm not sure what a limited NTC means, but I suspect it just means we couldn't trade him to Columbus in the future.

You would also think locking him up now means the Canucks are probably going to move Raymond before the deadline, but who knows with Gillis.

Youre right about the NTC, basically protects him from going to a crappy team.

Yeah, Raymond's definitely gone now IMO. I think Gillis needs to move him now before losing him for nothing in the summer.

We lack secondary scoring in a serious way and Higgins is on the secondary scoring unit. Just saying.

That said, we can't even get primary scoring these days so I'm not sure what my point is.

Meh, Higgins is being paid like a third liner, he produces pretty well for that role. He's definitely not a part of the problem. It's the contracts of guys like Booth and Ballard plus having 9 million+ locked up in goaltending that's hurting the secondary scoring. Plus having Kesler on the sidelines.

Yea, I've always thought Raymond was done here after this year. I can't see him wanting to take a discount to stay here after the team took him to arbitration during the summer.

Yuuuup. It's hard watching this team with any sense of excitement these days. My expectations for the post-season are at their lowest in a long while.

The actual cap hit isn't horrible, I would have preferred 3 years. The NTC is going to be criticized, but limited doesn't really matter IMO since I bet only playoff teams and contenders are usually only interested in those types of guys(if Gillis or whoever the GM is in a couple of years wants to move him). Again, I don't think it's a bargain, but it's not awful either.

No argument here, but Higgins is on pace right now to score 20+ goals over a full 82 game season. Keep in mind that he has done this while playing with a revolving door of linemates.

I think the real issue is that the Canucks need to overhaul their entire 2nd line. Higgins/Hansen are great for the third line, and both are signed at reasonable deals moving forward. We just need to clear some of this excess salary being taken up by Luongo, Booth, Ballard, etc.
