If teams are smart and acquire now, they get them for the playoffs plus a full year to determine if they want to resign them or not. Not to mention they are all younger and not rentals.

Cool. Maybe the Flyers should move Rinaldo for a first and 2nd. He's younger than Iginla and is signed past this year. Sure, he doesn't have Iginla's track record, his locker room presence, anything close to his career production. But if all it's based on is contract status and not any skill/personality, I say the Flyers do it. Should be simple.

Saying that, if Sidney Crosby is a UFA, and Dan Carcillo isn't, that Crosby will bring a better return. Sure, it would be preferred that he was signed for multiple years, but talent and pedigree play a much more major part.

Dude, you are totally off-base. Pominville is a very talented player. Iginla is a future hall of famer. Rinaldo is a scrub. It's not that the type of player and the skill of the player means NOTHING compared to years on a contract, it's that the value of the player is increased when a team gets more out of him than the last 20 games of a single season.
