Schenn was the centerpiece. They wanted Simmonds along with him, but Schenn was the key guy.
- Jsaquella

Beat me to it, but exactly what I was going to say...LA was high on Schenn, the trade deadline before the trade with us LA was reported to be trying to aquire Brad Richards who was an impending UFA at the time...Dallas asked for Schenn and that was the end to that

sure, but what I mean is that Simmonds may have exceeded their expectations ... thus potentially making Schenn available in a trade.

The cap hit is the biggest obstacle for most. Some focus on what Michael Peca said about him being soft...I think if you slot him in here, they're a solid group.
- Jsaquella

I would have been happy to see J-Bo in Orange & Black. Oh well.

Bow would have helped this team this year and next dont understand the hating going on for him...6 goals this year on a terrible team playing 25 plus mins as well oh well.
- flyerfan28

It scares me that he has never played on a winner. He was suppose to help push Calgary over the top but they just went backwards....not all Jaybo by any means but I just dont see top d man when I see him

Fair enough, I see your point on the cap hit....I think this team needs an overhaul on D like many have said too many of the same type all stay at home D and not much mobile.

I see Coots going before Schenn, whether its in the next 48 hrs or over the summer. I think they would rather trade him or maybe he has more value. Either way I just see him as the roster piece that would move...just my opinion though

I think for Jaybo St louis is a great place for him cause he doesnt have to be the top guy, I bet he plays well in st louis....though AP will make it so much easier....cant say he would do as well here where he need to be "the guy"

True I wonder though if St Louis made this deal to make Petro or Shattenkirk more tradeable...Or should I say they lose any one of them wont hurt as bad? Maybe the Flyers make a run at one of them?

you might be right ... especially if they think Laughton will be the new Coots.

I would have traded Read straight up for him but not a 1st rounder especially in 2013

I just think they see Schenn as more of an offensive #2 type center and with Laughton having not quite as much upside he could be your #3 checking center with a little scoring and then talbot or whoever is 4th line guy and coots has no place...again who knows

That 2013 1st rounder should be "untouchable"

I prefer they keep schenn anyways - I like his speed, physicality, and offensive upside. If he'd learn to win a faceoff or two that would be nice.

Couts seems too slow to me. Like the guy but would give him up for a solid dman without hesitation. I truly hope the flyers revisit Weber for next season. Watched him play tonight against the hawks.

would love to revisit the Weber scenario ... I just have to wonder if the Preds would even consider dealing him to the Flyers, unless the offer was far and away the best they had.

Im with you on that although Im sure Couts is going through a slump I mean this kid had a hatty in playoffs last year and shutdown Malkin....For whatever reason Schenn seems to get a pass I do see that he has more offensive upside though. If someone offered a top pair dman for Coots I would do it especially with Laughton in the mix.

totally agree. I'm sure they are bitter after doling out $27 million for 48 games of hockey.

yep, bitter feelings have ruined many a deal, I'm sure. Hell, I bet Clarke made a dozen moves just based on bitter feelings.

I do think that Coot's slump is a bit over exaggerated. A few weeks ago he was so incredibly snake bitten it was unbelievable. He easily had 5 or 6 goals in the bag, but the puck somehow stayed out.

Somewhat of a sophomore slump, for sure ... but the kid has also had some tough luck, and bad bounces.

I agree, think this entire team has been snake bitten...Many including myself assumed the younger guys would build off last year and simply didnt happen. Offensive guns asside from Voracek and Simmer havent been there.

Would you guys do Sean Couts and 2013 1st rounder for Pominville and Myers? Do you think thats enough or overpayment?

I have zero interest in Pominville.

Myers' contract scares me. He's shown a fairly steady decline since his rookie year. Granted, the fantastic rookie year gave him a long way to fall, but the sheer size of the contract gives me pause.

I don't want to trade Couturier or the 2013 1st rounder.
