I'm hoping the Aprils fools part was your suggestion for Streit. Way to much to give up. - Sabata
A first round for a 1-2 dman. What do you think the price should be? Leopold with 7 assists and no contract got a mid 2nd round pick. If we want a dman, that is the cost. However if we get striet they will have to trade someone which almost guarantees a second round pick coming our way if it is Nick, we might even get a first. Normally he wouldn't be worth that but prices for dmen seem way over inflated so if leopold is worth a second, Nick is worth a first.
So in a way we could be trading nick and one of our two seconds for striet. |

Did you just started watching the Oilers because I don't know who is that Smyth your talking about. - AlEx_OiL
Been watching the oilers all my life dude. About 16 years out of 22. There is nothing wrong with smyth get a life. If youd base your judgment on his scoring numbers alone then you don't understand hockey at all. Smyth has played solid d and pk minutes this year and frankly how is he going to score when noone is shooting pucks on his line? He's a garbage goal scorer he bangs in rebounds and stuff he's not had a lot of rebounds to get at this year. Have a nice night. |

Smyth looked terrible to finish last year and start this year. He has played his role of fourth liner, Pker, and veteran leader very well since being demoted. I am happy he accepted the role so well as he is signed for next year and he made it clear this is where he wants to finish his career. If he were to retire after this year I would probably breath a sigh of relief and his position could be filled with a better suited fourth liner. |

I still say the team needs a new captain. Horcoff is playing fine for a 3rd line C but he is not and never has been a captain. This team needs leadership. |

He's fine in limited 4th line minutes.
EDIT: I know we're hard on the vets and for some good reason but lets not forget the warrior spirit Smyth does bring. Who knows, he really could be invaluable to guys like Yakupov right now. |

What do you base this on? What you see as a fan? If so, why don't you take the word of other players and the coach, I have read Gagner and Kreuger interviews not that long ago where they both expressed what a good leader/captain Horcoff is. He is a very hard worker, plays hard every shift. The Oilers are clearly a better team when he is playing then they are when he is not. What could a 'real' captain do that Horcoff isn't? |

Y'know, I was definitely in the camp that didn't like him as a captain. I just found him annoying - and my perspective was a lot of the team/ kids were irritated or perhaps didn't respect him.
But at this point, having the "very hard-working" captain is just what this team needs at this point I think. When you think of the learning curve on what it takes to win night in and night out, I like that facet of his supposed leadership. |
