because i dont neccasarily agree hes a true top 4 dman. its close. somewhere between 4 and 5 imo.

torontos regretting komisarek. volchenkov is overpaid, zybenek michalek is a different type of player for the most part etc etc

i want to keep him and im not slaggin him at all. hes a warrior and does alot of things for us that others dont, but that shouldnt suggest hes worth huge dollars.
our defence is one the thinnest and most mediocre in the league. and having some of our guys playing where they do is part of the reason imo.

hes not part of the problem, but the open market is crazy. and id let him walk if he asked for something exorbitant. hes just not worth it imo. if he was to get 4.5 from someone, id much rather pay another guy 2.5 that is marginally lesser,. that would be 2 million wisely saved

we need some guys to take a little less than what they could get on the open market

and dont call me ignorant. it's my opinion. id dont agree with half the stuff u say, this included, but i dont bother insulting you.

and petry's our only true top 4 guy at present. and our best defenceman without question. not smid

- hugefemale dog77

nope both Smid and Petry had up and down season but I do agree Smid could get more then 4 mil so the Oilers should pay between 3.5 or 4 max.

according to David Pagnotta's twitter:

"whitney will be moved. Smid will be resigned. They want a top2 young Dman(obviously)"

- TheNugeIsHuge

If Whitney gets trade it means the oilers are trading a forward + for another younger Defeseman or Vet Defeseman if they care to make the playoff.

petry certainly makes errors and had some bad games. but hes our only 2 way guy that's fairly strong at both ends.
we literally dont have one other guy we can say that about at the moment. hes our clear number 1 guy.

and anyways, i dont care what he can get on the open market. (and at this point its only conjecture) i think 3.5 is a fair number for the oilers and what hes proven thus far.
wouldnt be too stoked on 4 (although i could probably live with it for a couple years if he developed even furthur) but anything more than that is a big overpayment and the oilers would regret it long term imo.

we still need to pay another top 4 guy remember.not to mention both schultz and petry getting raises in the very near future. gonna need a better 6th man than potter too. (hopefully thatll be klefbom)

i'm glad to hear they're actually searching for a top2 D man. Their #1 need.

2nd being a big, maybe gritty, top 9 winger

a couple of losses this week and we're done. in that case, do what they can with whitney.
but regardless of his lack of foot speed, hes still our best first pass outta our zone dman. something we struggle with mightily. he was actually great at doin it last night.
and hes been very valuable to us since his benchings.

tambs would be helping to submarine our season by dealing him for a pick or anything less than a prospect ready to step up.

i just can imagine trading away whitney for anything less than a proven player or at the very least a bluechip prospect thats close to ready while we're still just 1 pt out of a spot...

Thats easy. Smyth lander brown. Brown has been great for us you keep his butt in the lineup at all costs. Smyth has been a solid player for us this year though he's lost his offensive touch i'm thinking but thats mostly due to the fact he is playing more shutdown minutes then he has ever played. That and he and brown have worked well together, they had a great forcheck last night that led to smid's goal. Lander i'm not as keen on but we'll see how he does. Frankly i'd like them to make a trade for a better fourthline center but i'm willing to give lander a shot.

he wants 5yr term at $3.5m. i guess the news as everyone says it's 4m per at 4yr. it's a fair deal for both ends. i am with you though, i like $3.5-$3.75m 3yr.

I think Justin Schultz is legit as well, but not a solid as Petry.

Either your source is your nephew or you have officially exposed yourself as having no sources because the way you write the information you received from your "source" is worded as though they are your thoughts.

You are usually a good for a laugh or two so I will continue to read you but please quit saying you have sources because you do not. Yes I know in the past you have said over time you developed sources and have obtained a legit source but you can stop trying to impress people and just write your humorous hockey blogs from a biased oilers perspective.

Thanks.

oh totally. a great rookie. thats why i tried to make sure i said AT PRESENT a few times.
hes gonne be our pp and offensive guy for years.

hes just still a little green and needs to gain some strength for the defensive zone work.
im doubt he'll ever be as strong physically as petry, or considered a true two way guy, but im sure he'll be considered ahead of petry on the depth chart in the not to distant future. (whether it be just due to his offence or not)

You really think that deal is bad enough to be your location... someone on the leafs thread just posted.. macarthur.. jesse blacker.. and a 2nd for kulikov.

Even the crap i've heard on here for Hemsky is worse... My god.

Also, how many points does a player need to be as huge as the nuge?

he'd be going to UFA. If Subban was going to UFA they'd give him 6M. Called a bridge contract in RFA years

the way Nuge has been playing this year, not much. He's picked it up as of late. Obvious shoulder problems.

yea he's not as in-your-face, out-in-the-spotlight as Hall. But some of the plays he makes are phenomenal. Nuge started slow, but I mean he's obviously been fighting a shoulder injury, and Ebs n Hall weren't scoring much. He's been producing a lot as of late though. I'm not worried.

- Apparently, there's zero possibility that Jay Bouwmeester to the Oilers is going to happen.

I can't help but laugh when everyone and their dogs were saying this to him when he first brought it up, but when he hears it from his "source", suddenly it's real. Ahh Clouts... You keep me young. Don't ever change.
