Personally if the Leafs want to improve they should get a top 4 dman and a depth defensive forward.

Goalies shouldn't be an issue now, we can fix that in the summer when prices should be lower and maybe an addition from Free Agency.

I know I'm way late to this discussion, but if Yandle is available, Gardiner, Percy, or Finn would all be expendable in my opinion.

I think when it comes to trading prospects and picks, the two relevant questions are:

1. What is this prospect's upside?
2. How likely is it that said player will attain that upside?

Finn and Percy are extreme long shots to reach Yandle's level (the guy had 59 points one year in one of the league's best defensive systems).

Gardiner has a similar upside, but we're being extremely optimistic to think he'll peak at Yandle's level. Yandle appears to have learned how to play in his own end, for one.

Rielly is the only untouchable prospect on defense if Yandle is coming back.

I think that GM's are their own worst nightmare. If a player has a good season they overpay him instead of basing salary contracts on a career's body of work. They have made this league speculative and that is a serious danger. Leino anyone???

The Kadri and Bozak contracts should be interesting. There is also the issue of comparables in the league, and on your own team (Grabo).

Are you completely oblivious to the struggle contending teams have paying their players, and keeping a team together under a cap system? Take a look at the list of cup winners over the past 8 years, and how their teams have been picked and torn apart because they couldn't keep them together under the cap. Then take a look at the list of teams that couldn't even get there, and their window closed for the same reason. And you seem to think throwing a couple of mil in cap space around is just meaningless. Get a clue.

Yeah and thats an overpayment for a 4th line centerman, when you can have inexpensive guys roughly under 1M. Not saying mcclement isnt worth that, lucky he worked out, but majority can be fitted under a mill
